Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

TRV change from manual to temperature sensitive

In the pic for the link you posted, If you have the bigger ones, they are temperature controlled already.

If not, then replacements require drain down the system and replumb.

TRV stands for thermostatic radiator valve. All TRVs are controlled by a thermostat. Manual valves are basic twist on & twist off. TRV valves if used correctly will come on & off depending on the temperature of the room. It's like having a thermostat in every room dedicated to an individual rad

    Hi all,

We have manual TRVs on all the rads in the house. Something like this I'd say
    https://www.screwfix.com/p/white-chrome-angled-trv-with-lockshield-15mm-x/31811

Is it possible to upgrade these to some kind of temperature sensitive valves or smart trv's without having to replumb each valve?

I swapped mine out with Tado Smart TRV's

    https://www.tado.com/ie/products/smart-radiator-valve

Was able to just unscrew the old non-smart TRV and screw them on to the existing fitting.

You need a starter kit with the bridge and then add TRV's to it.

Thanks for that. Yes its an Orkli TRV, the BER Cert recommendations mentions that the rads have TRVs on them.

It has 1-5 settings on it. So in theory then I could set the boiler to constant and each rad will only turn on once it is a certain temparture?

The only thing is what happens once all the rads meet the desired temperature, does it continue to burn oil?

I also have a "smart" control panel that was installed as part of a free trial. Its not smart at all really. It does measure temperature in the room it is located in (the kitchen) but that is it really (It also allows scheduling of when it goes on and off and allows it to be turned on from my phone which can be handy).

What would be the best way to organise this system as it is and would it be much of an advantage to upgrade to something like the Tado I see mentioned above?
