Best Irish City/Place for a long weekend break?

Hi, Where would you like to go for a long weekend in Ireland. Your home town doesn't count!

Someplace for whatever you fancy. Arts meals etc.

Connemara - Clifden, Roundstone, Leenane, Tully, Inishbofin..any of those or all of those.

Edit: sorry if it has to be a 'town' or 'city', probably Westport or Galway.

At least at this stage every suggestion has got a vote. I could have made other suggestions but looked at the most popular places I think.

Loads of class coastal towns in Co. Cork, take your pick. Avoid Westport like the plague - pure tack.

Remove Sligo and Limerick and add Carrick on Shannon. Carrick is just behind Westport for me, filled with hen parties at weekends though so accommodation usually sells out well in advance.

Westport is fine town don't really see how it could be described as tacky. It's cheap, small enough to visit every place of value over a weekend.

Dublin if booking a hotel is extremely expensive weeknight nights. Obviously options are better there but ask yourself if it's worth the added cost.

It’s tacky in the same vein as Killarney. Should just rename the town ‘Tiddle-de-dee Begorrah’.

IF you are up for it, and want good hotels, good restaurants and top value for money, consider Derry very seriously.

Killarney is in a beautiful spot. I remember being there a long time back. I t is the only place where I saw tourists being thrown out of a bar for not drinking enough. In another pub they won't serve to the non drinker that was with me!

Yes, I looked at him in shock he said he had to as they were on half pints for an hour! The first place was busy and they were taking up valuable drinking room. The second place was quiet and they won't do a tea.

I love Limerick, my favourite city in Ireland by a mile. I'm from Cork and live in Dublin so it makes little sense but it's how it is.

Derrys a good city for food and drink and reasonable in price as you say. But apart from the city walls and some republican graffiti Im scratching my head about what else there is to do there. Its a good base if you want to drive the Inishowen 100 all the way up to Malin head which is a superb drive though you need to get good weather to truly appreciate it.
