Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back a page or two to re-sync the thread and this will then show latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Judgement day for Maria Bailey.

He literally has no shame, FG are now looking very similar to FF in the dying days of the 2011 government. Lacking leadership and stumbling from scandal to scandal like a heavyweight boxer in the 12th round.

Another headache for working parents in the new year, the government sat on their hands despite representation made about the looming crisis.

    https://www.irishexaminer.com/breakingnews/ireland/creches-affected-by-insurer-leaving-the-market-will-face-rises-in-the-region-of-100-971274.html

Maybe if parents stopped easing their consciences by suing for every little mishap that befalls their little darlings, insurance costs would fall significantly.

Or maybe, just maybe (and this is a crazy idea I know) the government could regulate the insurance industry properly. They could even ask their own TDs to display a bit of integrity and honesty by not taking a 60k claim for falling off a swing or a 15k claim for a car tip that happened at 5 miles per hour.

They’re not suing to ease their consciences they’re suing because of a ridiculous sense of entitlement

Are you suggesting all the users of crèches are suing? Can you provide some figures please to back this up?
Motor insurance premiums have not fallen despite payouts having dropped. It was in the papers . Even Junior Minister Darcy has threatened a super tax if Motor insurance companies don't reduce their premiums.

So what you're saying is that it was Maria Bailey's parents fault she tried to claim compo for falling off a swing..

When you stoop to attacking the poster instead of the post it's easy to dismiss you.

A convenient cop out for a poster who has repeatedly demonstrated his inability to debate any topic rationally.

Maybe Marias parents didnt teach her how to use a swing. She should probably have sued them too.

This is, your very first post in the thread, and it's a "blame the parents" post.

This is a thread about a TD who tried to pull a fast one, along with her colleague in cabinet, and you're off with a blame the parents quip.

    Absolutely shameless.

    :D

They might have taught her how to use a swing but unlikely that she was drunk and holding 2 bottles during her lessons.

It's safe to say Maryanne didn't put too much thought into her post and what values parents instill in their children.

Not in Maria's case anyway, the Apple didn't fall far from the tree.

Anyone else listen to SOR show on Friday morning and in particular the last half hour ( The Gathering )? Madigan was on and I must say she came across as a very arrogant know all. Kept interrupting when anyone else said something. Hopefully, her ‘know it all’ attitude comes back and implodes in her face.

Sorry am writing this on a tablet, so cannot copy & paste the link, but i’m sure if you go to the RTE site there is a link there.

Saw this this morning - not easy to digest. IF this is true, then another 5 years of being ripped off, fed bullsh1t, lied to, and insurance scammers by all and sundry to name but a few reasons that if this country EVER needed credible opposition, NOW IS THE TIME!!!

The key difference is that Fine Gael will get hammered on transfers. They have their core vote but the lack of transfers will lose them seats in a big way. The insurance fraud and expense corruption will cost them in a big way.

Those gombeens in FF will need FG support to form a government and the electorate will learn how dysfunctional our political system is once more.

Agreed. The thing that sickens me is that the so-called political party that brought this Country to its knees is neck & neck with the party that couldn’t organize sex in a brothel to be the MAIN party to govern us for the next 5 years.

    God, help us!!!

I know it sickens you WUWH, but that's just how the cookie crumbles. The man who gets up early in the morning and works hard has a tendency to vote for centrist parties either slightly left (FF) or slightly right (FG). The weirdos and loons who take the cheap seats in the dáil (Socialists, ****ehawks and shinners) don't get much succor from Tom and Theresa Taxpayer I'm afraid.

Those parties would be better off coming up with palatable policies which are appealing to the majority of people. They might stand a chance then.

It’s not exactly rocket science is it, Paddy? Welcome back btw.

The Republic of Ireland is less than 100 years old and we’ve gone from being the poorest country in Western Europe to one that the UN ranks as one of the best in the world to live in, the most educated workforce in Europe, a country with higher cancer survival rates than in places like the UK and Canada.

That stuff happened as a result of FF and FG governments. Tom and Teresa know that, and are also politically astute to know that while utopia doesn’t exist, they aren’t going to arrive there by voting for malcontents like Paul Murphy and Aengus Ó Snodaigh. FF and FG are the parties who represent the needs, desires and aspirations of the sort of Irishman who maintains a positive outlook on life.

Some of the regulars in the current affairs forum are some of the most politically unaware and deluded folks you’ll ever meet.

I never thought I'd see the day. A post from Paddy I agree with :)

Spot on though. The reality is that we are a two (maybe even one) party State. The less extremist alternatives tend to act as mudguards in coalitions, but no one wants the Alphabet soup left or SF at the wheel. They have uses in exposing things the big two would rather not be talked about, but that's about all.

There is definitely a market for a real alternative to the FF/FG merry go round alright, but given the way the system is setup and the costs involved it's highly unlikely to happen in any meaningful way :( Even parties like the Social Democrats (seen as some as the new hope) have ruined any real prospect of providing an alternative by running questionable candidates.

TBF, the FG manifesto is generally full of yarns so selling policies and having ones they'll use are not the same thing. I mean who voted for record breaking numbers of children homeless?

The tax paying worker wants value for money not expecting a utopia. What part of the NCH over runs(), Dara 'two years two jobs and expenses' Murphy, homeless, housing and health crises did Tommy and Teresa sign up for? Another state contract for Denis O'Brien?

True. You've FG bringing FF to the power table rather than risk any other shower getting a look. They feed off each other. We'll always be stuck with one or the other.

Explaining the reality of being the assumed best of a bad lot. You seemed to be under the impression FG or FF are the go to for decent working people. Just setting you straight ;)
Be FF's turn on top bunk next jant of Ireland's democratic merry-go-round. At least they'll likely build social housing instead of leasing off Michael Noonan's pals in the vulture community.

Howya WUWH. Thank you for the well wishes. My time in the clink was grim. Poor ablution facilities and sadistic goalers. I'm a free man now and going to keep my bib clean.
