How did you get past the terrible soundtrack? We got bored rewinding to try and make out what they were saying, totally ruined what was meant to be a good show

I did find some dialogue hard to decipher, but the story is good so i presevered.

You might like to try the Angel and the Sacha Baron Cohen series (The Spy) both are on Netflix.

theres a film called 'Love' produced by Tom DeLonge formerly of Blink182, whose new band Angels & Airwaves also did the soundtrack to.

it starts with an American civil-war battle but focuses mostly on a lone astronaut on the International Space Station in the present day, has a 'Moon' vibe to it...

its up on youtube in HD

Never knew it was cancelled. Thanks for that. Will give your suggestions a try.

    All TV series

Detectorists - Two lads with metal detectors set in the English Countryside - very easy going with light humour

The Knick - Set in the early 20th century about medical advances and surgeons self medicating mostly with liquid cocaine

The Deuce - Last episode aired this week and made by the creator of The Wire. About the porno industry in the US in the 1970's/80's

Rumpole of the Bailey - About a London barrister in the 1970's - quite quirky but the writing is great and I think only on Vimeo

Patrick Melrose - Mini series about a messed up heir of a wealthy family

A Simple Plan is a good film. If you have a Roku or a Fire Stick you can watch it free on a channel called Popcornflix. They also have the original The Stepfather.

Making A Murderer. A documentary series that staggered me. I'm sure it's on Netflix

Three Billboards outside Ebbing Missouri is a movie I saw just last week, and thought it brilliant.

    TV series

Battlestar Gallactica - It's basically the wire set in space, the first episode asks if it's ok to risk letting over 1,000 people die. The next few episodes deal with humans fighting amongst themselves over things like food, water and fuel. It deals with conflict in a very serious, adult and realistic way. It's just a pity the show has a terrible name.

Game of thrones - yes they made a mess of the ending but when GOT was at its best it was the best tv show ever made. The famous battle of the bastards episode is head and shoulders above anything else you'll ever see on tv.

Film - as its Halloween I'm watching A Quiet place again, for me it's one of the best horror films ever made. It has none of the gore or character stupidity that you'll see so often in horror films

The Tunnel is a very good watch,

''Agents of Shield'' is an excellent series up to season 5 anyway after that it gets a bit boring and loses its way.

Gotham is a very good series.

''The last ship'' was very good as well until the last season.

    11.22.63,
    Agent Carter,
    Continuum
    Timeless,
    Colony,
    The Orville,
    and
Falling Skies'' are all well worth a watch as well.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

    Primer - Time travel Sci-fi
Band of Brothers - War tv series
The Room and The Disaster Artist - Comedy gold
Everest - surprisingly good mountaineering flick

For the 25 people who have Amazon prime The Boys is the best thing on Amazon prime

The premise is what if superheros where uncaring and arrogant arseh*les. Whats interesting about it is when superheros cause people to die they get away with it as corporate companies cover up their bad deeds because superheros endorse brands and are worth a lot of money.. kind of a little exadduration of the real world obsession with celebrities.

Few other recent good tv shows

    The Deuce
    Succession
    The Righteous Gemstones

    Filums

Manhunter - Brian Cox is the best Hannibal Lecktor because he could be real.

Police Story - Jackie Chan doin' his thing.

Iceland , because why not ?
    Noi the Albino
Cold Fever - "the best Icelandic-Japanese road movie of 1995".
    Jar City

    Finland
Rare Exports - should be on at Christmas, very bad Santa.
The Cuckoo - ménage à trois in Lapland. On the Eastern front during WWII.
    Iron Sky - Moon Nazi's invade - what's not to like ?
Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning - Fan fiction at it's best. I lost it when I saw what was coming out of the wormhole.

    Norway
Trollhunter - does what it says on the tin.
Arn - The Knight Templar - It's like Kingdom of Heaven but it's a different true story.

    Sweden

The Seventh Seal. Cons - It's in black and white and it's got subtitles. Pros - An amazing film.
Let the Right One - Oskar makes a new friend and hilarity ensues :)
Sophie's World - It's a movie about the history of philosophy but disguised.

TV Show - Oz - hasn’t aged, still grim.

Movie - Das Boot - long, tense and has you rooting for the nazis

Left field suggestion - Sunderland Till I Die - not a football fan but really enjoyed it. Helps explain the passion northerners in England have for their football team and very entertaining

As a fan of the horror film genre, I could recommend lots of horror classics for Halloween night.

But if you truly want to be shocked and frightened, watch the film Threads from 1984. Very very difficult watch...

Off the top of my head:

Series - House (good doctor gone bad or bad doctor gone good?), Breaking Bad (chemistry teacher gone bad), The Crown (Liz up close), Chernobyl (tick, tick, ticktick, ticktickticktick...), The Young Offenders (Cork lads aren't so bad after all, mostly), The End of the f'king world (two teenage headcases meet), Happy Valley (UK lady cop has work and personal issues), Veep (US vice president does not have an easy job), Das Boot (some Nazis did their job well).

Films - Wadjda (Saudi girl wants a bike), Leviathan (in Russia, corruption corrupts you), Blade Runner (original; machine kills machines), Clockwise (1986; John Cleese as Basil Fawlty as neurotic headmaster), Down Periscope (what goes down usually comes up), Hot Fuzz (UK bobby finds peaceful English village not always peaceful), Agora (2009; Hypatia of Alexandria goes down fighting; books burn), Airplane ("Do you have the vector, Victor?", "Roger, Roger.").

Documentaries - Maidan (Tracy Edwards sails around the world), Street Food (series), anything with Jonathan Meades, Frozen Planet (Attenborough gets cold).

Podcasts - News Quiz (BBC R4 topical satire), Clear and Vivid (Alan Alda speaks with thinkers), You're Dead To Me (BBC R4, historian + comedian = history as fun), The History of Rome (Mike Duncan, not as much fun).

Mindhunter on Netflix definitely. I thought it was great and it was my elderly parents (late 70's folks) first ever binge watch Netflix series  :pac:
The ballad of Buster Scruggs is a recent enough film I'd recommend to anyone too.

Everyone else is sticking to the realistic or live action stuff, so I'm gonna go the anime route! Most of these, if not all, have way more life lessons than the vast majority of live tv shows, you just have to let the craziness happen, some animes can be a bit OTT! Plus, being an anime, it can do stuff most other shows can't. To me, watching something must take me away from the mundane world, so I rarely like shows based on reality. Couldn't get into The Shield (too old, tech, or lack thereof, was annoying me), I don't think The Sopranos is as good as people make out. Oh, and don't watch any of them with english voice overs, they're not a patch on the crazy Japanese!

Hunter x Hunter - My first anime, and while not finished and unlikely to (writer/main dude has health issues), it's a fantastic introduction to the world of anime
One Piece - The daddy of anime, has cult followings and you will see OP merch everywhere in Japan, like you'd see Coca Cola everywhere here! Running for the last 15 years plus and still weekly episodes, 909 at current count
Demon Slayer/Kimetsu no Yaiba - One of the newest animes out there, and stunningly beautiful. Will win all the awards imo. Highly recommended, but very few animes will look as good afterwards
Bleach - Great Samurai type show, starts to drag towards the end, but still well worth a watch imo, some good character development

This is taking too long, so i'll just list my favourites!

    Black Clover
    Naruto
    Baki
That other fighter one on Netflix
    Fairy Tail
That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime
    Assassination Classroom
    Attack on Titan
    My Hero Academia
The Rising of the Shield Hero
    Goblin Slayer
    Akame ga Kill
    Mob Psycho 100
    Blue Exorcist
    Dr. Stone
Is It Wrong To Try And Pick Up Girls In A Dungeon
    Berserk
    GATE
    Hundred
    Seven Deadly Sins

When it comes out, the Witcher. Netflix.

I've read the books, played the games. If the show is even close to those, it'll be excellent.
