It's categorically not a red card. Very strange that the ref just saw the injury and changed his mind. It's possibly even Auriers challenge that causes the damage. Anyway, it's not gonna change make a difference FPL wise for Son and obviously horrific for Gomes.

but my point is, if you're going to deliberately bring down a player by sliding tackle into them from behind and not get any of the ball, it should be a red. It's your teams own stupid fault if they're getting caught out by some counter attacking play.

Up to the player to decide then if they should let the attacking team have a shot at goal or is better to risk getting sent off

When I saw the red I thought it was for Aurier tbh. Not sure if he did much wrong as I only saw it live, but looked as if he may have left the boot in or something.

The thing is though, it’s not an automatic red card as per the current rules. On that basis Son shouldn’t have seen red.

Whether the rule should be changed or not is a separate discussion.
