    came across this while house hunting today, so title is it safe or is it a typical partial modern upgrade limited by the space available?

    Needs attention!!
    Based on what is shown in this photo a rewire is most likely required.

    Edit: Just to answer your question, it is not safe!

    great, im not being funny about this but rent is so much of a joke, you think ill get a mortgage for something small, but everywhere you see is basically a death trap, that its a miracle its still standing, how does work like this not get spotted, like what are the meter readers doing, how do other recs not say 'ah jesus, whats that'.

    sorry for the rant, just so angry

    its funny you mention the door the back door of the house had no handle and the lock was 'broken', and no they arent pipes it was some swa running to a shed out the back

    You say that as though rental properties are of a superior standard, often they are not.

    If it’s any consolation I feel your pain.

    Mostly wiring like that doesn’t cause any issues, other times it does. Unfortunately sorting out an electrical mess like that isn’t cheap.

    Needs attention at a minimum

    Only so much you can tell from a picture

    Inherent overload condition , loose connection/overheating, ?


    Doesn't look good for the rest of the installation

    Typical scenario. Old back door had the ESB service through the frame. Man arrives to install new door and pulls the service out of the way and doesn’t bother his arse tidying it up afterwards.

    yes and no, a few years ago in all but one rentals i was in if you had a problem you told them what it was and it was sorted. now its a totally different story of course

    .....and you pay for it being sorted through a dramatic increase in your rent!!!
    Sure you can get anything sorted once you are prepared to pay for it.
