This just shows how poor the show is now

    RIP Gay

    Never too Late Late

    So the week is gone
    The day is done
    The sun on the bay
    For our uncle Gay

    He asked us the questions
    For us to find answers
He gave our mothers an ear
    Away from control and fear

We all face loss and even death
But need an ear, don't give up yet
As Gay would want , The show goes on
After the Owl goes , a new day dawns

We have changed, for better and worse
The Irish condition , a terrible curse
But behind the anger , begrudgery, hate
I love this country , the people are great

Off the top of head - and wine included.

    Thanks Gay.
    Well done Ryan
    And RTE.

Ryan doing his very very best to squeeze out a crocodile tear or two there, couldn't quite manage it though.

Who was that female guest in the montage with the huge black/white hair?

Or was it Blackie Lawless from W.A.S.P? :D

Instead of fooking around with RTE1+1 and RTE2+2 sheite when they have the RTE Player they should have launched an RTE Gold channel showing content 5 years plus old from the old catalogue, loads of old stuff there would be interest in. No vision, no change, no future with current management, broken to the core.

RIP Gaybo but what on earth was the last bit of tonights late late show? They showed very little of Gaybo and snippets of so many other people. I would have much preferred to see snippets of Gaybo.

    I enjoyed the show tonight.
Foolish notion I know but it almost seemed Gay was there like an invisible guiding force.

Have you seen that episode of the sopranos? Wasnt Tony always a hypocrite?

Why did they just play clips of people on the show and not actually Gay? They really could have done better tonight to honour him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,185 ✭✭✭mistersifter

When tubridy dies they'll have a similar tribute ... But it'll be all clips of Dermot Bannon. Looking slightly older in each one.

Yes it was great TV. To be fair RTE did show it.

God, repeats of old late late shows with Gaybo - that would be brilliant.

I can't watch the RTE player on my tv though, occasionally +1 comes in useful.

I agree about the RTE Gold though, would be fantastic.

He wasn't a hypocrite at all. He was raising this as a point with his psychiatrist and it's a fair question to raise.

I met Samantha Power's paternal grandfather on a few occasions many years ago.He used to visit neighbours of my parents. He was an intelligence officer in the army during World War 2 and was based in the army barracks in Athlone.

Does RTE have any suggestion box or email type of thing because reruns of the old late late show would be brilliant.

Someone here mentioned the idea of an RTE Gold channel. That would be fantastic. Wanderly wagon could go in there along with some old rte shows and other oldies like highway to heaven and the flying doctors.

Probably best not to suggest that.

Nobody in the pub. I just had 2 pints and got home just in time for the Gay montage .

No sniggering in the cheap seats, Please.
Everyone here dissapointed it wasn't a complete Trump bashing session they could give out about :D

I've no problem with Ryan Trump bashing or praising him if he did anything any good. It's just that Tubridy has made it his "schtick" and it's become very boring. He does snarky impressions of both Trump and Boris J most mornings. It's the "same ol' same ol'" with him.

Great suggestion AD. THey've stuff on the player that I'd watch but it won't work satisfactorily on the 6 devices I have here. I'd be less grumpy handing over the licence fee if there was a channel of that kind of stuff on a loop and changed every so often.

Call it '"Reeling in the Years" on speed.'

I'd love to see a few 'start to finish' interviews instead of the stock clips we've been seeing for the last while.

THat's right. I know a couple of lads that have been going there for years. They also help out with S&R. It's supposed to be a great facility but as someone else mentioned, there were insurance problems. I don't live there any more so I only hear snippets of what's going on.

It's a beautiful part of the country looking over Lough Derg. Not far from there is Teann Tine mountain. It's the highest peak of the Arra mountains and the last I heard, you can see 8 counties from the top. I often rode a motorbike up there. Twice I had to replace the clutch a few days later.

The Samantha Power interview he didn’t cover her comments on Clinton and subsequent resignation and then cut the interview dead. I think she was a bit surprised where it stopped. Clearly she has watched a LLS interview by Tubridy before. This guardian link gives an idea of what could have covered.

    Yes and Yes

It was a good night, considering the time they had to put together.

    Ryan , was excellent .

Some of the guests were a bit off and from it , you could see very few were real friends.

Was moving when they played the flashbacks.

Night needed Bono for one (was on phone)
    Dunphy was good
    Mike Murphy was great
Harry Crosby was an actual friend.

Thanks Fix, I may watch it tomorrow if I have time. :)

You can understand how apprehensive I am when Ryan built up Tuesday’s show as being ‘upbeat’ - that word never goes in the same sentence as ‘Late Late Show’ - especially when Joe Duffy makes an appearance :D

It was probably Ryan's best ever performance.

Actually, was very impressed with his energy and performance last night as well.

I was thinking with the week and day would be tough. It was almost like, what would gay want. A super performance and great show.

Last night was fairly good by recent standards.

Awful. I flicked on this last night and it went off after a few seconds. Why does Tubridy always support all this awful modern music? The 2 Johnnies are more like 2 Mike Denvers.

Actually they did have the vision since that was exactly what they applied for permission to do from the Dept of Communication and which was turned down .

They also asked for permission to drop Kid's programmes on RTE2 .

After 18 months of no response from the Dept RTE took the hint and withdraw the proposal.

Incidentally they first asked permission to turn off Aertel 18 months ago

It is an insult to singers and bands doing proper music. Tubridy seems obsessed with 'culchie boyband' types singing stupid songs. Remember he had other drivel like Hit da Diff and Da Farmer Wants a Wife on too. No wonder proper music cannot get the breaks it deserves.

You can always rely on RTE to drool over a dodgy spooky looking scam like this. And on the same episode Tubridy was fawning over war criminal Samantha Power.
