Hello,
I understand from previous threads on boards.ie that any request by a customer to opt-out or decline a smart meter during the current roll-out of smart meters in Ireland will require the request to be reviewed by ESB Networks.
Can you please advise or give any information as to what such a review would consist of?
What information from the customer is required other than name and contact details of the account holder, account number etc?
What are the implications of declining a smart meter? Are customers allowed to keep the existing meters?
Thanks.

Hi Parkstone Quay,

We recommend contacting ESB Networks directly on 1850 372 757 regarding what the review involves. We also recommend putting your final two questions to them.

If a customer would like us to pass their information to ESB Networks for this review, the details we require for doing so are the account number, address and telephone number. We are not aware of what other details would be required by ESB Networks - apart from the MPRN, but the account number covers this.

Here are some links to general information also: Electric Ireland , ESB Networks, CRU.

Kind regards,
Una
