HQ ("Hanover Quay") not CHQ in case anyones confused; as CHQ is the other side of the river and has two pubs in it.

Lol! Spoons will have the central area rip-off addressed soon enough, for those of us happy to drink there!

Brew dog opening down that direction too

Ha cool, my partner's flat is around there and we were only saying the only real local is the Ferryman which I don't like. Didn't know there's a Brewdog going, I didn't even know they had pubs until I was in one in Brixton the other day!
But yeah roll on cheap D4 pints.

It's in D2 so you mean cheap D2 pints. How can you hate the Ferryman? Have you tried The Windjammer or the Padraig Pearse?

Going back to the mid 00's but there used to be an absolute R-sole of a barman/manager in that Ferryman, one of those arrogant (c)unts that Dublin (as much as I love the place and the people) seems to specialise in.

Do they accept Euro? Their CEO seems to be rather anti EU. I wouldn't set foot in the place myself as I think he's using his brand and notoriety to push a policy that could do huge damage to this island.

If he wants to go that political, I'll spend my money elsewhere.

If you got into the politics of all companies you'd prob be living like a luddite in a potato sack in fairness.

I tried boycotting all the Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael pubs but got very thirsty.

To be fair I can't think of many companies that have been so blatantly political. They even refuse to stock European beers and wines in their UK branches and put out pro Brexit beer mats. If they're going to boycott Irish, French, Belgian, Spanish etc products, I'm not spending one cent in their pubs.

It's very different to normal levels of businesses engagement in politics. Thousands of other bars in Ireland and I'm happy to drink them and not feed that kind of toxicity.

He is actively and aggressively lobbying for a policy (no deal Brexit) that will potentially do serious damage to Northern Ireland and the Republic, so I am not going to set foot in any of his bars. I think to do so would be turning a blind eye to very nasty politics that directly impacts this country.

Unsurprisingly they sell (certain) Irish products in Ireland.

Tim Martin may get a kick up the arse from other investors - he doesn't own much anymore - for some of his actions soon

No. It will be a few years away, I'd say.

Why do you think it will be a few years away? I would have thought they would have tried to open it asap.

Every other property they bought took years to renovate. The Wetherspoon system of space planning and infrastructure will have to be applied to the premises and that takes time. Every branch of JDW, like every branch of Tesco or any other large chain, is laid out according to a company plan. Once they have the keys they'll have their planning people in to work out how to transform it, then it'll have to go on the schedule of their refitting team, the branding team will have to draw up their plans, then they'll need to organise logistics, appoint a manager, do recruitment, all that. I doubt it's any faster taking on an existing pub/restuarant as against an old bank or niteclub: everything will need to be Wetherspoonised regardless.

They will. That's just how long it takes.
