    Hi all,

Just wondering what the best option is to get to Dublin city centre without using a car from Blackrock? Drive to Dundalk train station and get the train or is there a bus that stops near blackrock?

    Thanks

Once-off, or as part of a commute that gets you to Dublin at 9am every day?

Not sure how easy it is to park at the train station... you might get parked nearby.

There's a bus in blackrock that takes you into town, so it's 500m away from the bus stop at the marshes.

Matthews bus stop at DKIT might be a good option.

It is for a commute working in Dublin CC. Is there any free parking in or near the college or train station that people usually use?

You could probably park in Glenwood housing estate opposite the hospital and get the 100X or Matthews from there.

With the Matthews bus you can drive to the Marshes shopping centre which is where the buses leave from. Its 1 euro a day parking in a designated car park. You can buy a 20 euro ticket from the security person in the middle of the SC. Some people park in the rear DKIT car park but I’m not sure if that’s free/allowed/secure. Parking around glenwood isn’t something I’d do as it’s a residential area.

The train is twice as expensive and from what I remember is 2 euro a day for parking. It can be hassle getting a seat on the way home apparently. However you are avoiding the road traffic at rush hour which seems to have increased 25% compared to this time last year and will likely get worse.

There’s also plans for some park and ride on the Dundalk South exit in 2020, that may turn into another bus stop maybe.

The bus commute is horrendous. Train is the way to go, especially if you have flexi-time that you can occasionally get the late train in the morning (* not sure how that would work for parking) or early train in the evening for a bit of comfort.
There is a fair difference (fare difference .. pun not intended) between the bus and train, but don't forget you'll still save the tax on the difference, and your parking will be at a subsidised rate if you're an annual ticket holder.

Having commuted on the train for years I've found the last two years on the Matthews bus far better.

Get a seat straight away at the marshes, regular departure times, comfortable seats.

Yes traffic can be bad at times but the train had its fair share of delays too.
