If Grealish shows his work and explains why he singled out Nigeria, it'd all blow over. For me, I'd have no issue treating a country based on it's actions. That's how the world works. Treating Nigerians different on a one to one basis is where we fall into racism.

He did show his work. Nigeria was the biggest receiver of remittances outside of the EU. It was actually in the top 3 of all countries receiving remittances. Did you actually read what he said, or was the outrage too strong to wait before posting??

"The top five countries where money was transferred to over the past eight years include €843 million to Lithuania, €1 billion to France and the top three countries; €1.54 billion to Poland, €2.7 billion to the United Kingdom and €3.54 billion was sent to Nigeria."

Comrade, he obviously needs to explain himself further, no?
We could argue he's saying it's proceeds from crime. We could argue why specify Nigeria? We could argue maybe they like to look after their mammy more than poles?
There are documented cases of gangs of Indians in London back in the day living in the one flat and borrowing shoes off each other to save as much as possible to either send home or buy a business. Nothing nefarious in it.
As I say if he elaborates, it'll likely blow over.

Using data which was compiled by Nigeria using the number of people living there and the GDP per capita instead of using its CSO/Central Bank equivalences

Are you actually reading posts or are you ignoring this point on purpose?

I would suggest they talk to Grealish instead of the random punter on the streets but he’s doing that thing where he whips up fear and then runs a mile from any media.

Then those who support him say he’s not being given a fair ride by the liberal, woke, looney lefty media rabble rabble Denis O’Brien.

He makes statements like these (with a little grin on his face) and then doesn’t want to be held accountable.

People in this thread fall for it every single time, because they might be just a little bit xenophobic, if not racist.

He is a politician. He will be held accountable at an election very shortly.

Also the media is, in general much more left wing than the population as a whole.

Only if the public have the facts.
Do you think he might be leaving it vague so he can pull a Casey without looking like he's pulling a Casey?
'member when Casey was saying what the people were thinking on his sh*te voter support in the election he lost?
There's no merit to the idea the majority aren't decent people. Elections show they are, if tentative.

If 'the media' are bias and leftie, how come RTE can't get no love and FG practically owned the Indo, (still have a pal in Newstalk) for a decade?
Prior to that we'd well known communist Anthony O'Reilly at the helm and the Marxist Fianna Fail owning the Press in the decades before that ;)
Yeah the Irish Times is practically the Socialist worker...

He didn’t just lose, he got walloped.

Yet people take a moral victory and claim the media were against him.

As I said above, have you actually read what he said. He never singled out Nigeria, he mentioned the top 5 countries that money is sent. He never said it was the proceeds of crime, he asked if there were any checks and balances to ensure that the money was clean. You could argue all you want, but it would be blatantly wrong.

Perhaps large remittances to Nigeria and China represent, in part, payments to people smuggling gangs. Isn’t that hoe they work, you pay them for years after you reach the host country?

Rewriting history again. He came second. He got more votes than the remaining candidates combined. Hardly walloped.

Beaten by a factor of nearly 3:1 is walloped in any language.

Our Taoiseach spoke out against Grealish!! Green is the only colour that matters here. We are being taken for a ride. Doesn’t matter if it’s Irish, Nigerian or Chinese people removing money from our economy illegally while milking benefits here. Anyone caught should have the money taken by the exchequer and face serious prison time.
Why should they cost us even more in a prison cell? Send them the same direction as their money.

    Walloped.

Asking for clarity would be wrong? Seems like a contradiction right there.

The irony of people telling others that the Irish CSO is better than the Nigerian CSO while simultaneously telling those same others that they are racist.

I could sum up your posts as being those Nigerians are not to be trusted when it comes to statistics.

People rounding on him for asking an obvious question. The condemnation to that is extreme. Eoghan Murphy calling it disgusting on Kenny this morning. That will lead to more people getting annoyed that questions are not even tolerated now. Even if there is a logical explanation that would be fine. Since when are questions not allowed. Grealish will be getting more support due to the backlash against him irrespective if he is right or wrong.

They said the same about Peter Casey.

If you believed boards Casey would have walked the Presidential election, and then the European elections.

Why hasn’t Grealish answered his claims on air? Because he knows full well what he was at. Fear-whipping dog-whistling to get all of those who hate foreigners out of the woodwork.

Yeah I'm sure Mr. Murphy recoiled in disgust when he heard the news.

He definitely didn't have a little chuckle to himself, happy in the knowledge this would take up the news agenda for the next couple of days in place of actual important issues.

Lol. The same fake news crowd falling for sensationalist headlines about populist strongmen. Who would’ve thought? Anyone who follows politics or at least believes it at face value is truly a mouth breathing retard. Take Grealish for example. He has a track record of lying outright: https://www.irishtimes.com/opinion/noel-grealish-s-views-of-asylum-seekers-are-based-on-myth-1.4021292

He’s the “man of the people.”

Now he’s on the stage for the same bullsh*t parroted by most idiots in curent affairs: Return to Christianity, ‘Locals Only’ governing, anti - migration, anti socialist policies (subsidized healthcare, dole etc), anti government, anti - green policies, blame the migrants and the poor. In other words he’s the rereg troll of politics.

His latest headline is the litmus test for whether or not you should have any opinion on politics. If you believe him, you should really just focus on your job and family because you are not smart enough for anything other than that:

    https://twitter.com/cmaccaba/status/1194542079990534149?s=21

This lad explains why you’re a massive idiot. The Nigerian government too for severely miscalculating the figures. But mostly you, for believing a shady Mussolinni knockoff

I hope the Trots field a candidate in his constituency.

Oh you racist, claiming that our CSO is of a superior level to the Nigerian CSO.

What about the minister of finance?

    https://www.newstalk.com/news/donohoe-grealish-nigeria-money-924568

The figures are estimates based off total remittances and GDP. Irish GDP is highly inflated by tax avoidance.

    https://www.imf.org/external/pubs/ft/weo/2019/02/weodata/weorept.aspx?pr.x=64&pr.y=11&sy=2016&ey=2021&scsm=1&ssd=1&sort=country&ds=.&br=1&c=178&s=NGDP_RPCH%2CNGDPD%2CPPPGDP%2CNGDPDPC%2CPPPPC%2CPCPIPCH&grp=0&a=

Like f*ck, everyone here is making 77k annually.
Grealish, either because the populist voters are massive idiots or that he himself doesnt understand how the economy works, based the premise on Inflated figures and miscalculation.

Of course he’s got you hook and line with the Irish patriot defending the nation from foreigners rhetoric.

Politics truly is the bread and circuses of the modern world - Obvious theatrics and misleading the idiots.

If you disagree with his analysis, you're free to show your alternative figures and the full workings of how you arrived at them, just like he's done.

Or just keep blowing hot air, if that's all you're here for.
