    Baker Street
    Video Killed The Radio Star

Easy choices this time. Two cracking tunes.

#7 - Baker Street. The other guy has an annoying voice.

#8 - Would You. It's a fun, funky tune. Plus I'm sure pretty much everyone else will vote for Video Killed The Radio Star but it's not a song I'm keen on.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 52,319 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

    What QB said.

Baker Street and Video Killed the Radio Star.

    Cos they're superior songs basically.

    R 2 Match 7

Gerry Raferty - Baker Street (just an awesome sax)

    R 2 Match 8

Buggles - Video Killed the Radio Star (gets stuck in your head)

All eyes on Kursk. Slava Ukraini.

Beds Are Burning - it has really grown on me since round 1.

Would You? - Its a potential winner of the whole thing for me at this point.

    R 2 Match 7 - Gerry Raferty - Baker Street[
    R 2 Match 8 - Buggles - Video Killed the Radio Star

Never in doubt for these two, easy choices.

Baker st is a cracking song

I’ll go for would you in the other

Baker Street. For that sax solo alone, but the song in general is great.
Video Killed The Radio Star. Great song and One of the best one hit wonders of all time. IMO of course!

Don't know about that, not like there's ever been a competition comparing the contenders.

Baker Street for the soul. The crescendo is really iconic.

Would You? for the horny and edginess that was the 90's attitude.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,081 ✭✭✭✭Mam of 4

Baker Street , classic tune , still great today .

Video Killed The Radio Star , just because I don't like the other one .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,151 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

Baker Street : still a very good song, the other sounds like it's still stuck in the 80s

Video killed the radio star: the other song was just terrible, there has been some excellent covers of the buggles song too which keeps it fresh

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,896 ✭✭✭✭Spook_ie

Baker St hut I think my vote isn't needed

Video killed the radio star again I don't think my vote is needed but hey I'm typing anyway

I probably would have voted for the first, although I liked Beds are Burning too, and I definitely would have voted for the second. Votes not needed now.

In relation to Buggles, they were not a total one hit wonder. Their follow-up single Plastic Age was in the Top 20 and Clean Clean was in the lower end of the Top 40. But they fulfill the rules for this thread, i.e. no more than 3 Top 20 hits and associated with one song.

Just seeing this now (too late?) I wouldn't consider Gerry Rafferty a one hit wonder - Baker Street is a winner though - ( maybe the others are with Stealers Wheels?)

Reluctantly, The Macarena as the better of the two there.

    No opinion on the second.

These guys cos I nominated them.

And cos they're better and arguably more iconic songs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,713 ✭✭✭Pretzill

Ice, Ice Baby because it's not as nauseatingly, catchy. And Wheatus Teenage Dirtbag because it's a great tune.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,503 ✭✭✭✭Also Starring LeVar Burton

Macarena - because its so infectious and you can't help but do the dance when it plays.

Teenage Dirtbag - it was one of my nominees and one of my favourite songs of all time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,896 ✭✭✭✭Spook_ie

R2 9 Macarena it should just go straight to the final 2

R2 10 Teenage Dirt Bag Edges the other one out IMO

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

Macarena - Will get people on the floor guaranteed.

Coco Jumbo - An absolute guilty pleasure.

    Teenage Dirtbag - because it's brilliant :)

Macerana because it a classic +gets everyone on the dance floor.

Coco Jambo because it brings me right back to teenage years.

Delighted there is finally some cheesy tunes!

Ice ice baby and teenage dirtbag.

Just better than their competitors in this round

    Match 9

    No opinion

    Match 10

Teenage Dirtbag. Simply a great song.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,074 ✭✭✭✭Tell me how

R 2 Match 9 - Vanilla Ice - Ice Ice Baby. The Macarena has it's place but going for Vanilla Ice here because of his conviction in the quality of the song. Think he got a lot of stick from other 'artists' over the years but he is steadfast in his pride for this.

R 2 Match 10 - Mr President - Coco Jamboo: I nominated this, so guess I got to represent. I don't dislike the Wheetus song but Coco Jamboo does take me back to July and August 1997 every time I hear it.

    The Firm -'Star Trekkin .
Fecking love that song , happy memories just hopping around the place to it !

Europe - The Final Countdown ,
Another one that was a staple of my nights out after work finished , great times :)

    Owner of a Lonely Heart
    Don't Fear the Reaper

    Both better songs IMO.

Prefer this one to Star Trekkin which is meh at best.

This is hard. I don't mind which goes through here tbh. But Don't Fear The Reaper is a quality track and gets my vote. First real tough one for me though.

    Star trek king

    Dont fear the reaper

    Both are class

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,503 ✭✭✭✭Also Starring LeVar Burton

Owner Of A Lonely Heart - can't remember who they were up against in the last round, but I definitely overlooked this song in round 1. It's a solid tune.

Don't Fear The Reaper - great song and a potential contender to win the whole tournament.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,074 ✭✭✭✭Tell me how

R 2 Match 11 - The Firm - Star Trekkin'. Bit of a meh vote vote I do remember being fond of it as a child.

R 2 Match 12 - Europe - The Final Countdown. Legendary song. If you're going to have a single hit, you could do worse than it being this one. When anyone would ask why you hadn't another, you could just tell them, 'You can't improve on epic'

Two fairly tough matches here, don't mind too much who goes through.
    But my choices are:

#11 - Star Trekkin', just 'cause it always raises a smile.

#12 - The Final Countdown, for that iconic riff.
