Persepoly, you get back in there, put some sort of a smile on that face and do your civic duty.

Gladiators won the greatest tv show from the 80's and 90's....
Personally, I take pride knowing I have better taste than most of the great unwashed.

Honestly quite happy with which ever of those four wins. Sad for the four that went out, Wicked Game in particular, but competition was always gonna be tough at this stage.

Save tonight with a path to the semis a toddler banging on a pan would have made it through.

    Rigged I tells ya.

    Joking of course

Whatever about it having it relatively easy in the earlier rounds, Save Tonight beating Love Will Tear Us Apart is one of the biggest shocks of the whole competition imo.

Too late for a wildcard entry? :pac:

Their Wikipedia page states that they've actually had six top 20 hits in the US Billboard Top 100, including three Number 1's. So it's possible that someone did nominate it but it wouldn't have qualified based on the original criteria.

But they only had 2 Top 20 Hits in the UK, the other being You Won't See Me Cry. So, using the rules for this thread, they would qualify!

No, because the rules are no more than 3 top 20 hits in the US and UK combined, although a song hitting the top 20 in both is only counted once. If only the UK was counted they'd be OK, but the US hits rule them out.

Ok, we have arrived at the Semi Finals. I will post both together. No quota this time, we will leave it opened until 10am, leaders at that point will go through. If there is a tie at that point, we will go next vote wins, not resolved within another hour, I will cast deciding vote.

I have let the reason rule go until now, but please give a reason for the last 2 rounds. Even a little reason will do. I will not count your vote without a reason.

Best of luck to the 4 contenders.

    SF Match 1

Eagle Eye Cherry - Save tonight

    Vs

    Gerry Raferty - Baker Street

    SF Match 2

Blue Oyster Cult - Don't Fear the Reaper

    Vs

    Nee - 99 Luftbalons

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,503 ✭✭✭✭Also Starring LeVar Burton

Save Tonight - I bought my very first Now That's What I Call Music (Now 40, I think) CD purely because this song was on it, and I want to give it a fighting chance at making the final.

Don't Fear The Reaper - one of the greatest songs of all-time and I can't help but sing along whenever it plays.

Easy choices for me, basically comes down to personal preference at this stage.

Love that groovy sax in Baker Streer, but Save Tonight is actually fantastic and gets my vote.

Nena probably shouldnt have got this far tbh and Don't Fear The Reaper is just brilliant. Again just a better song imo.

    Snap to these. Literally.

40 was my first one too I think. Was that there one with Kung Fu fighting too?

I can't help but get pumped when the reaper intro comes on

I think so. It definitely had Don Henley's Boys of Summer anyway. Think I still have all those Now albums knocking about somewhere, must see if I can dig them out and have a listen...

    EDIT: https://www.nowmusic.com/album/now-40/

Going to vote for nena and her balloons, but wouldn’t mind if this was were she list.
Dont fear the reaper is an awesome song and only gets slightly tapped due to nostalgia, the memory of really loving something as a kid is very powerful.
