Whatever about it having it relatively easy in the earlier rounds, Save Tonight beating Love Will Tear Us Apart is one of the biggest shocks of the whole competition imo.

Their Wikipedia page states that they've actually had six top 20 hits in the US Billboard Top 100, including three Number 1's. So it's possible that someone did nominate it but it wouldn't have qualified based on the original criteria.

No, because the rules are no more than 3 top 20 hits in the US and UK combined, although a song hitting the top 20 in both is only counted once. If only the UK was counted they'd be OK, but the US hits rule them out.

Going to vote for nena and her balloons, but wouldn’t mind if this was were she list.
Dont fear the reaper is an awesome song and only gets slightly tapped due to nostalgia, the memory of really loving something as a kid is very powerful.
