27 Dust In The Wind, cause it's deep
28 Glorious, cause it's more profound than Jump Around
29 Video Killed The Radio Star, band ahead of their time
30 Ready To Go, good memories of the mid-nineties

    Damien Rice - Cannonball
    Beautiful song that

House Of Pain - Jump Around
From the first note, it's awesome!

Buggles - Video Killed the Radio Star
I've said this a few times, but it's the quintessential OHW

    Republica – Ready To Go
Yeah, I'm standing on the rooftops shouting out, baby I love this tune!

    Damien Rice - Cannonball
    Luffly.

House Of Pain - Jump Around
When I’m 70 I’ll still jump to this song. Imagine a Zimmer frame made of 4 pogo sticks :D

Buggles - Video Killed the Radio Star
If I’d remembered to Om Kilido my lust, this would have been on it.
Edit: I’ll say that again - if I had remembered to PM Kolido my LIST!

    Republica – Ready To Go
    Amazing tune

    R1 Match 30:

House Of Pain - Jump Around
    good jumping tune

Buggles - Video Killed the Radio Star
    Good documentary tune

Tatu - All The Things She Said
    Kick ass tune

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

Damien Rice - Cannonball I've heard of it.

House Of Pain - Jump Around Irish American scrotes appeal to me plus the lyrics including Schwarzenegger and Sega Mega Drives.

Buggles - Video Killed the Radio Star First video on MTV and Mickey is awfully annoying.

Republica – Ready To Go Was on a mobile phone ad back in the day and gets me going.

In relation to Buggles and Video Kills the Radio Star, it fulfills the artificial rules for here for "One Hit Wonder", i.e. no more than 3 Top 20 songs and act associated particularly with one song.

But, just to tip you off, it has been mentioned more than once, including a programme on Channel 4, as a proper one hit wonder, which it is not. Plastic Age, the follow-up single, reached the Top 20 in the UK and Clean Clean reached to lower end of the Top 40 in the UK. Not relevant here, but could be elsewhere!

#31 - voting for Break My Stride, mainly because I prefer Yazoo's original version of Only You to the Flying Pickets one.

#32 - although Coco Jamboo is a fun tune, I'm voting Bitch as the better song here.

#33 - voting Kung Fu Fighting as it's a bit more fun.

#34 - loathe as I am to vote for Vanilla Ice, I listened to that other one and the chorus does nothing for me. So reluctantly voting Ice Ice Baby.

Break My Stride , love that song,

Bitch , because we can be all things rolled up into one :p

Waiting On A Star To Fall , had forgotten about this one , nice reminder

Ice Ice Baby , cos I nominated it :D

    Match 31
Only You as it holds stronger memories and reminds me of certain people, although it kills me a little to vote against Break My Stride

    Match 32
Coco Jambo because I like the energy of it, but it was another close call here.

    Match 33
Waiting For A Star To Fall because its one of my '80s favourites.

    Match 34
Ice Ice Baby because I don't care for the other song, and Ice Ice Baby is fun enough.

#27 - Vote Cannonball, though not as good as The Breeders song of the same name.

I actually had The Breeders' song on my list, but when I checked it only made it as far as #40 in the UK so I wasn't sure it would count. One of my all-time favourite songs.

    Match 31

Only You. The whole of my French class got into trouble for constantly singing this song while the teacher had his back to us at the blackboard. Oddly enough, we were never asked to form an a capella group afterwards. :D

    Match 32

    No opinion

    Match 33

Kung Fu Fighting, because those kicks were fast as lightning. This made my shortlist and almost made the final cut.

    Match 34

No opinion, other than I can't forgive Vanilla Ice for bastardising Under Pressure.

I took it off my list because it just felt too weird to call them a "one hit wonder" when they have so many great songs, almost like I was insulting them or something.

Definitely still gonna vote for it if someone else picked it though. :P

Flying Pickets - Only You over Break My Stride but just barely.

Mr President - Coco Jambo because I knew the dance and still do.

Boy Meets Girl - Waiting For A Star To Fall is a quintessential cheesy record.

Vanilla Ice - Ice Ice Baby Word 2 ya mother!

Mambo no 5.. So much fun

Always look on the brightside of life.. Again, it's fun

Hallelujah.. A classic, but Leonard Cohen a one hit wonder? Good grief!!!!

Mad World beautiful haunting cover of the more brash (still great) Tears for Fears song

Walking in Memphis - only choosing it as I detest mambo no5

Rush hour - ooooooh you send me. Catchy tune and always look on the bright side I’ve heard way too many times.

99 luftballoons - it really is a brilliant song.

    The final countdown - brilliant.

Could vote for either here but I still listen to this song semi regularly whereas Mambo No. 5 I'd listen to probably only if it came on the radio and the switch station button was broken.

Another toughie, don't really mind if the other one goes through but voting this for it's comedic appearance in Scrubs primarily. Someone at a PC link the video!!

I wish I nominated this (only one of mine has come up yet) but kudos to whoever did. Probably even more so than One and Only this is a quintessential OHW and should do well... (waits for it to be knocked out by that depressing sh1te opposite it)

Marc Cohn - Walking in Memphis
Good little tune that, and I hate Mambo #5

Eric Idle - Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life
Hidden genius, seems like a silly little skit but is really a great song

    Leonard Cohen - Hallelujah
One of my nominations, classic song

    Europe - The Final Countdown
Damn you Kol, I nominated Mad World but the Final Countdown is a stone cold classic!

Match 32 - Coco jamboo - my favorite song where the main instrument is a flute fashioned from a coconut

Match 33 Kung fu fighting - possibly the greatest song in the world about kung fu fighting

Match 34 Ice ice baby - a song about ice who doesn't like ice
