Finally met my sergeant yesterday, just to meet the superintendent now. I’d say April is out of reach now it’ll be more than likely be July now. I hope

What’s your OOM? And is July just speculation for the next intake yeah? Congrats and I hope your vetting comes through mate!

How do you know when vetting is done? Do they just email you?

Supposedly yeah. Mine is still active and ongoing but I’ve heard from a few people from this campaign that you get an email.

840s, haven't got word yet, which I'm quite happy about as I need to work on my beep test.

I want to apply but I have a phd in data science so I would like to put that to use within the Garda and not be assigned menial field tasks - can someone point me to the right place? I assume I don't apply via the general format?

I have just submitted my Form B.
Will HR sent a confirmation email to say they have received it?
    Thanks in advance

Afraid not, you send it in and that's it, the only time they'll come back to you regarding Form B is if they have a question or a query regarding dates/family members :)

If by 'menial' you refer to the front-line staff, then I would advise you to rethink whether An Garda Síochána is right for you.

Whether you have a PHD, a Masters, a degree, a level 6 or 7 or even a FÁS course, everyone starts from the same line. There is no special application for people with degrees. If you want to apply, you apply to the competition the same as every other joe-soap. A PHD doesn't guarantee you'll make it through all the selection rounds.

If you make it to Templemore, you'll be asked to supply your degree and it will be copied on record - the only difference is you may jump a few steps in the pay-grade when you're put into your station.
But just to burst your bubble, you'll be a 'menial' Garda first. You will be a probationer who will have to walk the beat, who will have to respond to the call from an old woman whose house has been burgled. You will be the one standing on the door of a crime scene for eight hours straight to preserve the scene. Only through service and due diligence you may get promoted to Sergeant or even move laterally through the force to specialise in a specific field, but that is down to your superiors and how competitive the field is, not you.

If that's not something you're willing to do, seriously evaluate your career choice.

Don’t think they are up that far as I’m 823 and I haven’t got word yet either... I’m in the same boat as you !

    Mod:

I don't want to see any hint of racial or ethnic bigotry here or anywhere else in the ES forums. Anyone who starts that "deh forriners" nonsense will be dealt with appropriately.

I have my physical on the 6th of March so would I have a good chance of getting in for April?

Difficult to predict but I wouldn't bank on it. Even if you got the medical and meeting sergeant/super really snappy, I think you would be cutting it tight. There seems to be plenty of people here that have got everything done within a month though so you never know!
Do you have vetting from abroad that might hold you up?

Order of Merit has nothing to do with anyone getting into Templemore. I asked HRM about it because I was OOM 90 from the 2018 campaign and only got in on the January intake. HRM says it's used up until your file is sent off for vetting and then the OOM is only used in extraordinary circumstances where it could be one spot between two candidates.

As for if you might get a call, possibly? Other people in my intake got a very fast turnover.
I only got four days' notice. I got my invitation on the 15th to be up there on the 20th for Induction, so just keep the head up and you'll eventually get in. :)

At the medical does anybody know if the doctor can tell if your eligible for laser eye surgery or what happens if you fail the eye test

Not sure if this a silly question but...

When I emailed my Form B yesterday I just replied to the HRPD.GardaTrainee.Info@garda.ie with my forms etc.

Is it case sensitive ? As I noticed is says to send to:

    HRPD.gardatraniee.info@garda.ie

I assume it all goes to the same place.

    Thanks in advance

For anyone whose done the medical, is it normally done on one particular day of the week or does it vary and if you cant make an appointment how accommodating are they with a reschedule.

Trying to juggle work and this keeping this craic going is getting tougher and tougher
