Serious arm wrestle for the next 10

Three points at least from this attack and it should be enough. But we'll see.

VDF - 26m from 5 carries, 3 clean breaks, 3 defenders beaten, 20 tackles, none missed.

It’s mad that people think he isn’t the best Irish 7. He’s incredible.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,906 ✭✭✭✭PhlegmyMoses

Beautiful. Basically did what Lyon could not

    Ah ****

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,816 ✭✭✭LostArt

Well that wasn't pretty but we'll take it

    Edit: balls, but still grand

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,230 ✭✭✭A-Train

Yes get the in. Great score

Edit feck that anyway. However he wasn’t getting to Sexton

Smart play by the Lyon player there.

    Shut up Dave.

Nice to get the win but not a good performance all in. Solid in defence but relied on Lyon making some awful mistakes.

How did he not get man of the match?

VdF was robbed of man of the match I think. He was absolutely mincing players in the tackle, driving them back yards, made a couple of crucial turnovers and also a couple of line breaks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 70,731 ✭✭✭✭FrancieBrady

    Well done..looked ominous at times.

    Job done. Roll on Northampton

Seriously scrappy game, no flow of any kind but still, we'll take it.

VDF the best player on the park, titanic performance.

To be fair, we made a fair few ourselves. Conditions probably dictated the shape of the game more than anything, but I suspect it was partly due to re-integration of the internationals as well. But two from two and a win away in France is always a bonus.

victory away form home against the Top 14 leaders without getting out of 3rd gear is pretty impressive

Yeah we made terrible mistakes and butchered some attacks too. Hence the poor performance part.

Very poor attendance at this Sale match

    Great try that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,375 ✭✭✭✭prawnsambo

This is interesting. Can they cancel this out after the conversion?

    Edit: apparently yes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,168 ✭✭✭✭2smiggy

Forward pass, but they did that the conversion, should not be sales fault if the video ref was too slow IMO

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,599 ✭✭✭ScrubsfanChris

Don’t think they can overturn that
    TMO Protocols 2.1

    2. Potential infringement by the team touching the ball down in opposition in-goal
2.1 If, after a team in possession of the ball has touched the ball down in their opponents’ in-goal area (including after a try is awarded and before the conversion is struck), any of the match officials (including the TMO) have a view that there was a potential infringement, within the list of offences (see 2.3) before the ball was carried into in-goal by the team that touched the ball down, they may suggest that the referee refers the matter to the TMO for review.

That is one of the most stupid things I’ve seen on a rugby pitch - has to be red and lengthy ban

How braindead are some professional players nowadays. Every single time you're going to get done for something like that with a tmo.

Looks like it might be lucky for the hooker that the 2 guys are up in the stand and can't get their hands on him for a few minutes.

Soft soft high tackle call. Too many of those these days

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,168 ✭✭✭✭2smiggy

Looking back at the disallowed try, the best part was that it was after a Chris Ashton 'splash'

I don't remember Bourgarit doing anything like that before. It was stupid but I didn't think it was very bad. I don't think he poked his eye.
It's going to cost LA Rochelle any chance of even a losing bonus point even with Sale's wastage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,599 ✭✭✭ScrubsfanChris

A penalty try and a player yellow card, as is the law.

A penalty try and a player yellow card, as is the law.

When you can clearly identify the culprit

A quick Google search turned up three yellow cards in the last twelve months. And all of them as a sub coming on after 61 minutes at the earliest. Not exactly a stellar disciplinary record.

Nothing about that in the laws
Easy to ask TMO if unsure.

You cannot yellow card a player you are not sure committed the act.

    Rugby reffing 101

Re Ulster/Clermont match, Ref didn’t even try to find or explain why no card.
Agree with your point, but ref had no intention of implementing the law clearly or just forgot.

Seen before penalty try’s given and ref goes to TMO to find a number.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,168 ✭✭✭✭2smiggy

The ref does not seem to have much of a grasp of what's going on

Referee has been awful in this game.

To be fair it was as a result of a scrum being competely demolished....you could argue that every one of the 8 were at fault, and any one of the from row could have been penalised.
Easy enough for JP Doyle to say he couldn't see any individual at fault
