I didn't think the runway at Baldonnel would be long enough to take an A320.

Why would the Irish gov charter an aircraft this size to repatriate just 2 persons?

Plus medical, security, and diplomatic personnel.

Off season for numerous small Turkish airlines with planes sitting in hangars, getting two cycles from engines and aircraft would at least cover some if not all of their monthly lease agreement.

And it's less conspicuous as mentioned.

The aircraft originated in Beirut. The Defence Forces have 400 soldiers in the Lebanon as part of UNIFIL. This wasn't her.

I was speaking to a work colleague based in Dublin Airport on Tuesday and whilst i was speaking to him he mentioned a load of flag waving etc and then a large contingent of soldiers appeared through the gates, presumably from a tour of duty.

It flew from Antalya (Turkey), where it seems to be based, to Beirut the night before

Do they normal send back weapons and equipment on a passenger plane? Would there not be more room on a cargo plane?

FG are shaping up for the next GE. Would they be bold enough to make the very unpopular decision of not disclosing this info for a few days?

A condition of her repatriation should/could have been no contact with social media or any other media and a block on making moolah out of this by any means.

Just my feeling on the matter.

No if you read the comments properly you’d see that I said the soldiers weapons are brought with them on the aircraft.
They are brought to the airport under escort of the Garda and DF, loaded into the hold of the aircraft under armed supervision and the armed supervision stays there until the aircraft pushes back. The vehicles etc are mostly supplied by the UN/UNIFIL.

A question for the military experts here. If (as one poster has said) they needed an A320 to return all the weapons and equipment of the 114th battalion who have just returned, would they not have needed a similar sized aircraft to transport the stuff over when they deployed in May? What about weapons and equipment for the 115th battalion who are just deploying?

Published on Friday 25th October 2019
The 115th Infantry Battalion replaces the 114th Infantry Battalion which deployed to Lebanon in May 2019. In UNIFIL the Irish Battalion will provide robust patrolling support to the Lebanese Armed Forces and protection to the local population from their primary Headquarters location in UN Post 2-45. In addition, Irish personnel will occupy and secure two observation posts along the Blue Line.
The 115th Infantry Battalion will deploy to UNIFIL under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Robert Hurley.

She really shouldn't be allowed keep her child. She will pump her toxic ISIS ideology into it.

She is a traitor and should have her passport revoked. Even put it to a referendum. In the past treason was dealt with by hanging. Now you get treated like royalty.

This woman has cost us a serious amount of money. She should be put away for a lengthy sentence. I just can't figure the media and political obsession with her. If she was Liam rather than Lisa Smith and hadn't a child, one suspects no one would pay him the slightest attention, rot in hell would be the verdict.

She willingly joined a terrorist organisation that murdered tens if not hundreds of thousands of innocent people including children. Here we are accepting her back to this country and giving her air time on TV. Just think about that. What sort of half-witted idiots are we electing?

We live in a world where the same people that champion trials convicting 90 year olds to prison for being cooks and cleaners in concentration camps for the nazis are defending a woman who actively volountarily gave herself to isis and continues to defend their ideals

Just to 100% debunk this theory. I came home from Lebanon on Monday and landed in Dublin airport.

We dont rotate weapons in and out, they are handed over to the next lads.

Also, defence forces weapons have travelled in and out of civilian airports in the past.

Best to just talk about what you know instead of what you think you know.

Under what legislation? Remember ISIS isn’t listed as a prescribed organisation in law.

You can’t pick and choose when it comes to law.

I’m not for one minute defending her .. however it’s impossible to have a reasonable productive debate when you are bombarded with unrealistic nonsense
