It was said last night that section 5 would allow the law to define IS as an unlawful organisation.

Will be interesting to see on what charge. As others have kindly pointed out there are provisions in the 2005 Act that may apply.

    Interesting development.

Were there actually people who wanted her to go free?
I mostly saw posts concerned that they may not have enough evidence.

    What’s she been charged with?
In possession of a Dundalk accent!

Yep it was Dante. I’m rooting for you having the correct part of the act, Dante!

Wonder where she was being held. There were a lot of Military Police and Gardai escorting a bus on the N-81 at about 7:30 this morning. I was wondering who/what it was until i saw the news alert.

Well I was thinking something similar or else there's a few different scenarios.

They're working in Law and are of the ilk that even if they know their client is guilty, they'll pursue the case and win it no matter what.
Because that's what they're paid to do, this isn't personal... only business.

Or they were in trouble in the past, and cannot help but be on the side of criminals and always on the make, probably NPD personality thrown in too.

Or else they get a kick out of being the devil's advocate.

No doubt they'll be here like a pack of wolves asking people to point out in their post's where they were supporting her...

Let's see first what's she's charged with first, before some posters faint with self praise.

Are these the people that were against the idea of internment based on the word of one Garda or military officer?

I still doubt they have enough evidence for a real conviction, but maybe they are going to use the old "Chief Superintendent's belief" law.

Once charged I suppose the thread will have to close, so get your bets in now!

If that is the case then the Garda are making a big effort to do something but the legislation in this country is inadequate.

Bet she will out and about before the weekend.

Yeah. Looks like it will be just a funding/supporting terrorist organisation charge. For now anyway.

Ultimately the screws are being turned from all corners here to not see Smith walking out of a Garda station to freedom. The optics would be awful and there's a risk to her safety if we're being honest.

So they'll find something to charge her with and apply to keep her in custody on the basis of her being a flight risk. On account of the child, they might opt for house arrest. There's no chance she was ever going to be out walking free within days of coming home.

When it's all calmed down in a fews month then there can be a trial, even if it's unsuccessful they can say they tried.

Whatever the charge is they must be quite sure of themselves that its a valid and worthwhile case given how high profile the case will be.
DPP went for the charge quick enough. I'd say they knew what they were going to have her on long before she got on the plane. Plenty of time to prepare. Otherwise they would have taken her off the plane, dropped her home and left her to it.

Great to see that she's not just walking out this morning, but I will save my praise for the justice system till I see the final outcome. Still don't think she's going to get what she deserves.

A year or two in the Dochas hotel at most I'd say.

    That's fairly optimistic of you.
Is there another facility for keeping woman prisoners long term?
