    Hi folks,

I fully understand that  its a crazy time for you at the minute, but would appreciate some advice.

I am looking to change my living room TV and have looked through the website. I  have selected three TV's, which of them would you recommend? I wouldn't be a huge teccie person, I just want a good picture on the TV, which will be getting it's  signal from a Zgemma set top box, and half decent sound, which is what is failing now on my current Samsung TV.

What is the quality from this soundbar like?

Does Ambilight work effectively wit a set top box, or would it just be a gimmick. I have other Hue lighting in the room already.

Any other recommendations are also welcomed. Budget for the TV (50") and a soundbar would be ~€600, thanks

    Hi ratracer,

Out of those TVs I would definitely go with the Philips 50PUS6754. The Samsungs are good TVs but the Philips uses a micro dimming panel so has better contrast, colour and brightness than the Samsungs.

The Samsung soundbar is also a very good soundbar but for a little bit more I would actually go with the Cambridge TVB2 at £199 which sounds incredible:

Let me know what you think.

    Kind regards

Well it's taken me a while to get round to ordering, but I did pull the trigger on the Philips TV just now. I spoke to one of your staff on the phone this morning and was very happy to go with the TV as recommended. I'd hope to come back and add a soundbar later on in the summer.

Thanks for all your help and sound advice, I'll be eagerly watching for the delivery man now. ;)

    Hi folks,

I’ve got the TV a couple of weeks now and I’m very happy with the picture and the Ambilight experience/ atmosphere.

As I kinda expected, the sound isn’t great so I am going to order a sound bar soon. Are sound bars generally compatible with the TV remote control? So if I turn the TV on/off or increase volume, can just the TV remote do this for sound bar also?

    Thanks,
    Paul

    Hi Ratracer.

Excellent that you are enjoying the New TV.

TV remotes do not usually control soundbars unless they are the same make but then again it is not a guarantee.

Is there a particular soundbar you have been interested in?

    Kenny.

    Hi Kenny,

To be very honest, I wouldn’t know a huge amount about them. I used to have an older surround sound dvd system a few years back, but didn’t bother replacing it too much. We tended not to use it as using different remotes was a bit of a faff! Hence looking for one that might work with TV remote. My living room is about 40 sq m, so something for that size room, and primarily just for use with the TV. My budget is probably around €200ish.

Do you sell/ rate Philips sound bars?

    Hi Ratracer.

We do sell Philips Soundbars but they are starting at 329 Euro
    https://euro.richersounds.ie/p-13947-philips-htl3320-soundbar-soundbar-subwoofer.aspx

At the 200 Euro mark you would be looking at the Sony HTCT290.
    https://euro.richersounds.ie/p-202589-sony-htct290-black-soundbar.aspx

It is going to be tricky to get a soundbar that works with your TV remote unfortunately.

    Let me know your thoughts.

    Kenny.

    Hi Kenny,

Last query on this, I promise ;)

I think I've narrowed the choice down to either the Sony HTCT290 you mentioned above, or the Cambridge TVB2 V2 as recommended back at the start of the thread.

Which of these two would you recommend? (my room is about 40sqm)
Do you have both in stock, or a shipping date for them?

    Thanks,
    Paul

    Hey Ratracer.

The Sony 290 is currently out of stock and there is no ETA for more arriving.

I suppose that helps with the decision :D

The TVB2 is a great soundbar and would be more popular than the Sony.
It does also produce the better sound quality in my opinion.
