Housing Minister Eoghan Murphy has released a statement claiming that he has delivered 10,000 social houses this year.

Is he lying and if he is how is he allowed to get away with it.
Is he counting the HAP millions given to his landlord friends as "social housing delivery"

Only Leo Varadkar alone has confidence in Eoghan Murphy. When this government falls, Murphy will have to go to Brussels find a job. He is toast.

Hes allowed because people keep voting for him and his party. When you all stop doing that, he'll stop.

What makes you think he is lying? In February they reported over 5k homes being built this year.

The council and other social housing organisations have been bidding pretty aggressively on new estates the last 2 years. Well, mostly Cluid and Tuath have been buying properties. Especially new estates where the developer could get a immediate cash influx for houses down the line. Looks like a lot of those deals from the last few years are coming online now.

Not sure that "bidding aggressively" on the private market against first time buyers is the best policy unless the intention is to cause house price inflation. However the actual number is approx 2,900.
Eoghan Murphy seems to be counting increased number in HAP payments to landlords as part of the 7000 house shortfall in his claim.
Private landlords are now getting nearly a billion euro a year because of the "housing crisis"

Official figures show 2,200 were built in 2017 and 4,400 in 2018. If that has increased to 10,000 it is to be welcomed.
However I suspect the Minister is lying

    Or misread something.

2017-2018 plus the estimate for 2019 suspiciously adds up to around 10k

Over 18,000 homes were built last year. It doesn’t say how many were social houses. https://www.thejournal.ie/factcheck-home-builds-4559654-Mar2019/

    From that article

Department of Housing figures show there were 2,022 local authority new builds last year.

However this figure includes turnkey scheme homes – built by contract by a private developer – as well as properties that were regenerated, rather than built from scratch.

Using figures for regenerated properties is very misleading. These are houses that local authorities had left vacant but brought back into use. They are not new builds.

This number is tiny though particularly given the years when nothing was built and the vast amounts being given to private landlords and hotels

He personally built them? all in one year that would be a world record one man building 10,000 houses in a year.
