    And still is.

Very very few people are willing to leave the EU to bring it back.

    +1.
The amount of people who spout shít about bringing back the death penalty without paying notice to our EU membership and treaty obligations is staggering.

Does this not get thought in whatever civics is called these days

We could just pay the fine.

We should never have voted to get rid of it; total virtue signalling.

You think implementation of the death penalty would result in a fine?
Care to demonstrate which others of the EU are currently paying this fine?
    What it amounts to?
What about the checks to ensure no judicial error results in execution of an innocent person?
Who compensates the family of wrongly executed folk?
When does that cost, outweigh the "moral" benefit to you?

Then, could you present some academic evidence of the efficacy of the death penalty in reducing crime rates? It's deterrent effect?

Maybe not the death penalty but something needs to be done. These people with 50/100/200/300 previous convictions, what's the point in keeping them alive? What do they offer the human race? They'd actually be better off as fertiliser for the planet.
