Squally hail/rain shower just gone through here gusting 69 km/hWNW , temperature much cooler this morning at 5.4C

Definitely hail showers with possibility of lightning going to be a feature today.

Up the little one early in Ashbourne. The wind is wild but on a break at the moment. Waiting on the text confirming my young lads match is off this morning.

I’ve just been out walking with the dog and it’s nasty enough in Swords! Few decent gusts with bursts of rain.

Edit: by nasty enough I mean there’s stuff flapping in the wind, construction fencing rattling like mad and you can forget about keeping your hood up. Not anything major but certainly not calm!

ECM 0Z showing the strong winds from the afternoon in the SW and later in the W and NW as the second wave of winds move across the country late evening early Monday morning.

Showing gusting 120 to 130 in the SW and up along the W and NW later. Not showing the same chance of 140km/h as previous run but still a slight possibility from some models on SW coasts in the early evening.

Kerry to me is still showing the strongest winds gusting to 130 km/h in general from late afternoon , probably peaking around 4 to 9 and staying very windy into the early hours of Monday morning.

Winds in the E probably dont reach their peak until mid to later evening or thereabouts.

Those big squally showers could create locally very strong gusts anywhere .

    Some of the main models.

Some subtle differences . ARPEGE is probably a good average although AROME does bring the later strong winds further N, bit out on it's own with this though.

Would that not look like a red warning should be in place for Kerry at least

Had 101 km/h in mace Head earlier.

Very borderline I would have thought. Probably not enough of a chance of over 130km/h throughout the county away from exposed coasts is what's keeping to Orange. But it is a High end Orange warning at least. Either way will be very rough later in the afternoon .

Starting up now. Washing line all over the place.
Strong gusts. I must have been looking out when it was calm. :(

Very intense squally showers from around 8 to 845 in Mountmellick. Can confirm, like Kermit the Frog (not de Frog, distant cousin) that this rain is in fact wet and that thankfully my feral friend and his two sons are all snug as bugs in their caravans out back and haven't done a Wanderly Wagon. As yet.
I think dogs will be doing a Jim Royle ala Pearl of Prestatyn and pee'ing in bottles today.

Think this will pack a much bigger punch than Lorenzo down here in North Cork.

Analysis at 06Z. The 975-hPa low southwest of Iceland is rapidly filling and will be just an open trough as it approaches later this afternoon, but with a very strong gradient on its western flank. The 956-hPa low to the southeast of Iceland will be that second wave of winds following on later this evening and tonight, filling as it does so to 986-hPa near Dublin by midnight. It will all be over very quickly, especially in the east.

    06Z analysis

    Forecast for midnight

Honestly you'd never imagine what is to come weather wise here in cork. Not a puff of wind at 9:33am.

Wind not far off straight down the runway so you should be sound. Very bumpy as you take off though espically in the left turn directly after takeoff. Runway 26 .

The latest forecasts for Knock are a bit low imo. Max gusts 48 knots seems a little low, but in any case wind direction will be pretty much aligned with the runway so for taking off not really a problem.

What’s Dublin airport looking like today for some cross wind action?.
Not much to do with kids today in this weather so might take a drive out around lunch time.

A further nudge South on 06z gfs for the first swathe of winds. Kerry and Cork now at most risk. Still orange but high side of orange near the coast.

Holy crap. Just had near enough lighting and thunder simultaneously. Thunder sounded like it was right above my head it was a seriously loud bang.

    Near Leitrim coast.
