Little snowy and square circle, can't understand the need to constantly post how the weather forecast is some kind of conspiracy or false alarm.
Do you not get the concepts around weather? How one location may be different to another, or how the forecast is for peak winds later tonight and not earlier on. Also this is a weather forum tracking a storm, and if you don't 'believe' in storms maybe don't comment.

Many thanks to the regulars tho, great info as always.

Is the first big false flag imminent? Nothing remotely approaching red warning levels being recorded anywhere on land and many places, even in the west, haven't been much above a basic yellow.

Total false flag. A bit windy but nothing major.

Looking at a chart earlier the tips of west kerry and west cork may see some action, but elsewhere it wont amount to much.

Not much in Galway...I see how the weather works now...when there are weather warnings it wont be bad and when theres no warning it will be bad;)

In fairness its all the opinions that make the forum. We all get that even within an individual county there can be a storm one end and nothing the other.

Another view of the latest 'Harmonie' model for between 8pm & 3am tonight. For some reason, the time stamps and legend did not download onto the images, but creamy yellow upwards donates 14 m/s (or about 28 knots mean speed) upwards.

    (DMI)

Main 'takeaway' from these charts is that it will get pretty boisterous for a few hours later this evening and into the early hours in pretty much most places.

Almost flat calm in Galway now

This meso-scale low in the southwest is powerful but it will create a strong gradient between severe gusts and the less severe conditions some are reporting a bit further north. Looks like it should track enough south of due east to spare most of the southeast from full force gusts but some squally showers on radar mean locally you could get damaging gusts from a passing shower cell too. Will be hit or miss away from the south Kerry coast.

The second phase of this storm has more widespread potential and almost everyone away from the southwest has not seen their peak winds yet.

Yes, I would agree, but the likes of M.T and others have been putting effort into explaining where the strongest winds, and what time, are likely to be. Posts claiming that the forecasts were wrong come across as being just a little bit bottish and automated.

    What does "meso-scale" mean?

Apocalyptic deluge just hurled itself onto our front room window with wind screaming down chimney and flickering lights. Can't imagine how bad it is the just a few miles west of Tralee right now.

Looks like the weather has started hitting landings at cork. RyanAir flight just turned around.

Official readings showing Sherkin Island reporting 64 knot gust in past hour (119km/h).

    Highest so far I think.

As they used to say "Get a life" This is getting silly. How we really become this over sensitive and anxious. We have turned into a nation of snowflakes.

Pretty bad where I am in North Cork, a little elavated and open though. Lights flickering a little, hope the dinner gets cooked before maybe they go!

Meso-scale indicates a low that is on a smaller scale than most and will have a smaller wind field, sometimes these can be very strong over limited areas. The second low coming south from west of the Hebrides is not particularly large either but a bit larger than meso-scale. It has some features of a polar low. Those can also have some very intense wind fields on their western flanks.

Winds tend to peak with sharp pressure rises after the passage of these smaller low features, while larger lows tend to create peak winds in frontal zones ahead of the circulation. The pressure rose 7 mb when this meso-scale low at an earlier stage of development passed by the M6 buoy.

That northern low is currently tracking more southeast than earlier and the centre may end up a bit further east into Ulster, however the strong wind zone is likely to be over Donegal Bay in any case. Still expecting that peak around 9 pm, lasting 3-4 hours when it does arrive. Wind direction will be WNW veering to NNW during the windstorm. Will probably be particularly bad around Bundoran coast facing into the strongest winds. This is where there could be some coastal flooding as a result.

Dare I say that for the most part Cork ( bar maybe the most westerly part ) didnt merit any colour at all today so far?

At most a standard blustery winters day?

Seems to be the general state of play in most areas.

I'm a bit confused. So is the storm tonight?

It's calm here in the nw, been like that for quite a while.

Whereas last night was very windy.

Was out for a (very short) walk earlier and while it was breezy and the showers were heavy, it was fine.

It's definitely picked up a notch in the past 30mins here now. Some pretty strong gusts and constant wind noise. Not a night to be out in.
