Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Die Hard tromps in to Round 3.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,424 ✭✭✭✭Rikand

Actually I hope die hard wins it out because it would be like back to the future almost winning that other contest

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,231 ✭✭✭Hercule Poirot

Die Hard, has to be - especially against a run of the mill X saves Christmas nonsense

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,034 ✭✭✭Ficheall

I'll vote for Arthur so he doesn't feel so bad.

Home Alone, because it deserves to go much further in the comp, but this was a really tough choice.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,005 ✭✭✭✭Toto Wolfcastle

Oh ffs, another tough one. Love both but have to go with Die Hard 2 because it’s the better of the Die Hards.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,034 ✭✭✭Ficheall

I think my favourite Christmas Movie would be if John McClane shot Macaulay Culkin in the face repeatedly.

    DH2 it is.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,097 ✭✭✭xalot

Ohhh a tough one. Home Alone purely because it's suitable for everyone.

Die Hard 2 cos it's even Die Harder than the first Die Hard with extra Christmas feeling

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 4,281 Mod ✭✭✭✭deconduo

Oh no, I think this is the first time two I like are up against each other. Gotta go with Home Alone here, as much as I enjoy DH2.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,422 ✭✭✭✭Kolido

    I vote Home Alone

Love both movies, unfortunate to meet this round. however HA is imo the greatest xmas movie and should go on to win the comp.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,231 ✭✭✭Hercule Poirot

Die Hard 2 - to be fair, probably more due to having watch Home Alone every year for God knows how long while growing up

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,185 ✭✭✭Declan A Walsh

Round 2, Match 9: Home Alone vs Die Hard 2

I like both but I think Home Alone has the edge for the great concept (before it was repeated!) and the humour of the film.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,404 ✭✭✭✭sKeith

Die hard 2, as imho, its the 2nd best xmas movie.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,424 ✭✭✭✭Rikand

Home alone because it's one of the greatest christmas movies ever and you cant let it go out now. You just cant!

Joe pesci at his absolute best. Such a versatile actor

Miracle on 34th street - good classic Christmas movie.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,503 ✭✭✭✭Also Starring LeVar Burton

Miracle on 34th Street, because I absolutely loved this version as a kid, but both great films.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,005 ✭✭✭✭Toto Wolfcastle

Miracle on 34th Street for the fantastic performance from my favourite of the Attenboroughs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,422 ✭✭✭✭Kolido

    I vote for Scrooge.

I was in a primary school production of this, I was an extra with one line, that was the end of my acting career. However, I never held a grudge against it, loved the story ever since and this adaption is imo the best.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 52,216 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

Miracle on 34th Street cos it's the better version and BAH HUMBUG TO ALL THESE CHRISTMAS CAROL ADAPTATIONS

    oh tough one!

i will go with miracle, because i prefer other scrooge movies over this version

Ah crap, I missed voting for Die Hard 2. Home Alone must not be let progress any further.

Round 2, Match 10: Miracle on 34th Street vs Scrooge

I just remembered that I did see that version of Scrooge some years ago! I will give it a vote as it is a more substantial film than the other, which is just alright.

Miracle on 34th, proper Xmas movie and I wish I'd been in time to vote against Feckin Diehard the first, second and Turd

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,185 ✭✭✭Declan A Walsh

I just noticed that Miracle had it won before I gave my vote!

How The Grinch Stole Christmas - I'm not a massive fan of either of them, but Jim Carrey is always fun to watch.

Nightmare. Possibly the best animated film of all time, and it even has Santa Claus for those voters who have tinsel between their ears.

Grinch. Big Jim Carey fan, but could never warm to Burton
