It's a Wonderful Life because there's a point in life where anyone can feel low and it's good to be reminded that each one of us, (even those who nominated A Nightmare at Christmas) have something to offer. :)

Xmas vacation for me, I would just have more fun watching that. Other movie is good also but gotta pick one.

It's a wonderful life - its a better film overall vs the short gags of lampoons

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 71,799 ✭✭✭✭Ted_YNWA

Elf. Couldn’t warm to Gremlins but I’ll watch Elf all year round.

Gremlins. Who doesn't love a bit of mayhem at Christmas?

Oh such a hard one, gremlins for nostalgia, loved it as a kid

Always going to be a bit tougher to choose come the quarters and these are two classics

I'm gonna go Gremlins as its more entertaining than Elf (which is great), and its one of my picks

    elf
    Far more christmassy

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 52,313 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

    Gremlins all the way here.

    Far far better movie

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 460 ✭✭tonytiger81

Gremlins is classic. ELf.....not so much.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 71,799 ✭✭✭✭Ted_YNWA

    Elf out of these two.

Never saw the appeal of Gizmo & gang.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,503 ✭✭✭✭Also Starring LeVar Burton

Gremlins, because it's got everything; action, comedy, horror, xmas

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,109 ✭✭✭circadian

Oh tough call, I'd call for Elf. Its Will Farrell in form, packs with laughs and totally on point for Christmas.

  • Registered Users Posts: 343 ✭✭Siobh73

Elf, those little gremlin creatures freak me out

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 16,287 Mod ✭✭✭✭quickbeam

Gremlins makes it to the Semis!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,896 ✭✭✭✭Spook_ie

Gremlins because Gizmo reminds me of a Furby and the trouble I went to get one for my daughter's Christmas/Birthday present in around the 2000s

Was it a real life Jingle All The Way? :)

Home Alone, because Joe Pesci in a kids movie is amazing!

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 52,313 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

    Home Alone.

    Christmas Classic.

And Joe Pesci > Billy Bob Thornton

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,497 ✭✭✭ArnoldJRimmer

I'll go for Bad Santa as I'm more likely to re-watch it than Home Alone

    Home alone

    Because you filthy animal

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,648 ✭✭✭honeybear

Home Alone ... loved it when younger

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,109 ✭✭✭circadian

Gotta be home alone, it has John Candy, it has slapstick, it's got Christmas songs and a smartass Culkin.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,883 ✭✭✭tusk

Home Alone. It's a mad success that never should have been. And it's a wonderful movie all round. There's a new show on netflix outlining how this, die hard, ghostbusters, and dirty dancing were made. everyone should watch. It's fascinating.

Bad Santa, home alo e was good but it's spoilt by the repetitive HA2,HA3 etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 460 ✭✭tonytiger81

Bad Santa cos Bernie Mac was subtly funny and the "you aint gonna sh!t straight for a week" gags

  • Moderators, Entertainment Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 14,157 Mod ✭✭✭✭pc7

Home Alone, house scenes were very clever and it’s a hoot seeing them break in, like an old school caper movie

  • Registered Users Posts: 343 ✭✭Siobh73

Home Alone, Christmas plus family, something for all age groups

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 16,287 Mod ✭✭✭✭quickbeam

And Home Alone makes it to the Semis!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How can you let the sequels have an effect on your opinion of the first as a standalone?

    Die Hard.

"Come out to the coast, we'll get together, have a few laughs..."

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,713 ✭✭✭Pretzill

Home Alone because of Joe Pesci

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,648 ✭✭✭honeybear

Die Hard because of John/Bruce in a vest!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,896 ✭✭✭✭Spook_ie

    Willie wonka
Because it knocked 2 of my favs out

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,503 ✭✭✭✭Also Starring LeVar Burton

Die Hard, because obviously it's gotta be Die Hard - it's amazing. And Willy Wonka isn't even set at Xmas.

  • Registered Users, Subscribers, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47,343 ✭✭✭✭Zaph

Die Hard, because unlike that Wonka bloke, it's an actual Christmas film.

  • Registered Users Posts: 343 ✭✭Siobh73

Willie Wonka for me. Could watch it every year

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 52,313 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

    Die Hard,

Cos it's awesome and Wonka is a creep

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,005 ✭✭✭✭Toto Wolfcastle

Die Hard because it’s an actual Christmas film and more family friendly than creepy Willy Wonka.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,497 ✭✭✭ArnoldJRimmer

Balls, I nominated both of these and now don;t know which to choose

Lets go Willy Wonka as they don't make films as dark as this for kids anymore

  • Moderators, Entertainment Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 14,157 Mod ✭✭✭✭pc7

Die Hard cause Bruce rocks it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,883 ✭✭✭tusk

willy wonka because 'come with me and you'll be in a world of pure imagination'
