did you have to add the prepay card to your PayPal?

The narrower a man’s mind, the broader his statements.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 134 ✭✭jimmy86

Yeah, I think I selected the person I wanted to send it to along with the amount and then the next screen there was an option to add new payment method.

    Can anyone advise please....

Currently in the USA and had converted euros to dollars to use here but apparently I need my physical card to use them here which I don't have.

My 16yo has his physical card so I was trying to figure out how to send him my USDs so we can use them off his card but I can't seem to find an option to send USD instead of Euros.

Can Anyone help please? Is it possible? Anyone give a step by step guide please?

    Tia

Once you choose who you're sending money to, under where you input the amount there should be a drop down menu allowing you to choose which account to transfer from.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,221 ✭✭✭CollyFlower

Anyone know if you can disable your physical card and still using the virtual card for online shopping?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,994 ✭✭✭✭Mimikyu

Yeah all the cards work independently of each other so even if you’ve got one frozen other cards you haven’t frozen will continue to work.

I’ve a spare physical card a family member holds on to because she’s up north regularly so I just unfreeze it if she’s picking me up stuff and all my other cards continue to work.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,994 ✭✭✭✭Mimikyu

I can understand you might need your physical card for some places but can you not use your Apple/Google Pay at all?

I think you can only send Euro from your main account to an <18 account. I just checked my app and it only gave me that option. No option from my currency or joint accounts.

Worst case scenario you can transfer it back to Euro and top up your kids account. Just bear in mind they only have a €300 exchange limit and there’s a 0.5% fee after that.

Anyone know who this is on? Funds have been pending since the 17th of December when I tried to pay for flights. American says they cant see any transaction from their end but Revolut are still holding the funds until the 3rd of Jan waiting for American to claim them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,562 ✭✭✭optiplexgx270

Did you download the invoice/statement pdf there will be more information in that to give to AA for them to try and find it.

Nothing revolut can do to help tbh is 100% on the AA side.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,553 ✭✭✭✭Vicxas

There's only my card number on the statement and the amount paid. No unique transaction ID

Ah yes just checked a sumup from a taxi yesterday and it's the same i was thinking of bank transfers. Revolut support script wallys won't be much help or cancel it the ball is in AA court to settle the transaction or reverse it or for it to time out. Fair chunk of change to have stuck in limbo was the booking on their site? If so it is ridiculous they can't associate a charge with a booking they initiated.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,263 ✭✭✭lau1247

Did AA confirm your flight booking with a reference number? Surely you can give them the booking number if successfully booked and they can link it up with the payment method used

Has anybody made a transfer to an Irish Bank from Revolut today?

In theory all European Banks are required to be able to receive SEPA Instant Transfers as of this morning (and the register shows the irish banks are since early December) but Revolut still tells me it's not instant to PTSB and that no Irish Bank supports it.

Edit, looks like it's PTSB that is the problem here:

Incoming SEPA Instant Credit Transfers for PTSB payment accounts – Available from the end of January

Just sent a test transfer from Revolut to an EBS account and it arrived in seconds so they're up and running anyway.

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 12,253 Mod ✭✭✭✭igCorcaigh

My mother recently got revolut, but when she tops up her revolut account from AIB, she has to then enter her AIB credentials and the transfer takes days to happen.

Why could this be? Is the AIB account set up incorrectly?

She hasn't ordered a physical card yet.

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 35,164 Mod ✭✭✭✭AlmightyCushion

It sounds like she is topping up her Revolut using her AIB account. That will just be a normal transfer. She should top it up using her AIB card instead, that will be much quicker (practically instant). I'm not sure how AIB fees work, she might get charged more for doing that though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,565 ✭✭✭TheChizler

When she presses "Add money" she should press "Change" in the next screen and she can add her AIB card there, topping up using card makes funds available straight away .

Ah, I see. The UI has changed so much recently. Thank you @TheChizler, I'll give that a go!

They've definitely redesigned it to push you toward using bank transfer by default, costs them nothing but card likely incurrs some charge for Revolut.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,658 ✭✭✭Qrt

I tried to my BOI, not instant, but it was in about 30 mins later. Now this was at 9:30 AM during banking hours, but it was definitely a lot quicker than the past.

I’ve checked the estimated time on Revolut with different bank IBANs. AIB seem to have SEPA Instant fully functioning, alongside Danske and my local Credit Union. BOI and PTSB not quite, but there’s definitely movement.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,873 ✭✭✭Bummer1234

I sent money last night from Revolut to BOI at 5.10pm and got the notification and email at 1.51am that the "transfer was successful" like usual, So its not rocket quick from Revolut yet, It was "in progress" on BOI app this morning so its not usable yet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,868 ✭✭✭wandererz

AIB yesterday evening was just a few seconds.

I’ve had a similar problem with the college green hotel in Dublin. They’ve blocked 330 on my card from when I’ve stayed there and it’s going to revert on Jan 16th. They are complete idiots in that place even though it’s supposed to be 5*, gone round in circles with them for ages. Now just have to wait until the 16th. They kept insisting it was an ATM transaction in the hotel! Only when I started asking for cctv and mentioning that the only time someone else physically had my card, momentarily, was in reception when checking in did they start looking into other things. Still not sorted though. Off topic I know sorry. Place is a clown show though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,562 ✭✭✭optiplexgx270

I successfully made a payment to my AIB visa card from revolut today that arrived into my visa card immediately (as pending in AIB) using the card number as reference. People may remember this going back to 2023 when they moved us to Irish ibans this stopped working and work around such as paying AIB from other banks or post office etc. was the solution. Well now you can send directly from revolut 🎉

It's the iban that starts with IE60 it's a public shared domestic aib iban but an admin probably will redact it if I post 🙂

It's the one listed as irish here:

Does that mean the international one no longer works from Revolut's Irish IBAN I wonder?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,209 ✭✭✭✭AndrewJRenko

Thanks for letting us know. Amazing, only 18 months after they screwed it up, they make a solution available. I did a test payment too and it landed in my AIB Visa account in the time it took me to login to AIB.

Still no further response from Ombudsman or from Revolut on the original problem, which is fairly poor. If they had even said to me 18 months ago that the SEPA Instant would solve this problem, that would have been something.

I'll wait and see how long it takes for the Ombudsman to respond.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,235 ✭✭✭TaurenDruid

Still no further response from Ombudsman or from Revolut on the original problem, which is fairly poor.

Is that the "ordinary" Ombudsman, or a financial one? I was thinking of making a complaint to the Office of the Ombudsman about not getting a complaint investigated, let alone resolved, over three years after making one to the DPC, but if it's gonna take 18 months for the Ombudsman to respond…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,209 ✭✭✭✭AndrewJRenko

Financial Ombudsman - they did an initial attempt at mediation (which involved Revolut trying to buy me off with a little compo), and then told me I wouldn't hear anything more for 12-18 months. I'm still waiting.

I've been through the Office of the Ombudsman as well, they tended to respond withing 3-6 months, though they're great at coming up with reasons why complaints are out of scope for them.

In fairness, I've found the DPC fairly good on complaints I've sent them - they usually respond within 3-6 months too.

Considering finally making the move to shift most away from AIB to Revolut. Trying to do all the calculations of what is actually paying for. Currently on Premium anyway due to needing a US account for transferring funds from USA occasionally. Trying to justify the upgrade to Metal and wondering how others did it?

I reckon I could spend up to € 50K via the credit card in a year, so I'm thinking that goes from 12,500 to 25,000 Rev Points which is roughly the same as 1c per point on the likes of Avios, right?

    1. Has anyone upgraded mid-year on current plan and can you just pay the difference?
    2. Can you convert an existing account to a joint account, or am I right saying a joint account is one you add to the existing account?
    3. Anyone more nervous about the bank guarantee coming from Lithuania than Ireland?
    4. Am I reading right that it could eliminate the need for buying travel insurance? I have Laya and EHIC for health cover already and on scanning it it seems like Revolut insurance could cover the rest?

Then it almost got me thinking about trying out Ultra

    1. Firstly there's a 10,000 point sign up bonus which is worth a few quid
    2. Is anyone here on ultra? Does the esim also include calls? i.e. it could replace one of our phone plans?

Just got my statement of fees for the year in a push notification.

Had quite a few "fee for currency conversion on the weekend" totalling about 9 euro.

Any tips to avoid this in future besides buying stuff on the weekend?

I usually just top up my euro account.

Would converting it to a different currency on the weekdays eliminate it from happening?

    Thanks!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,039 ✭✭✭✭dulpit

If you know you'll be spending at weekend, you can convert during the week and then use that at the weekend?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,301 ✭✭✭Doge

Yeah that's what I meant in the post.

Sounds like a good idea. Thanks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,967 ✭✭✭wassie

I use my free N26 account during these periods. Free instant transfers from Revolut and rates are reasonably close to mid-market like Revlout during the week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,234 ✭✭✭beachhead

In their T&Cs I think Revolut's weekend starts at 5pm on a Friday and ends 9am on Monday.Holiday wkends extend into a Tuesday. Those times could be for whatever time zone you happen to be located in at transaction time and not your registered address or Lithuanian time.Maybe another poster can verify what I say.

    Convert outside of weekends

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,562 ✭✭✭optiplexgx270

All currency exchanges on weekends, between 5pm Eastern Standard Time (EST) Friday and 6pm EST Sunday, incur a 1% weekend fee. There's no discount for paid plan customers.

That would be 10pm Dublin time Friday to 11pm Sunday.

This is extended on bank holidays to Monday 11pm as well yup.

The fee amount is seen in app when doing currency exchange if you want to check (click back on fee page to not do it) before a purchase on card.

Did a search, but can't find an answer:

For Flexible Cash funds Revolut withholds 41%, rather than the more standard 33% DIRT rate. So does that mean you need to handle it differently, from a Revenue declaration perspective? The form has a field for Deposit Interest Received, but the relevant sub-field, is 'Gross Interest received on which DIRT was deducted @33%', so I'm not sure if I should be including this interest earned in this field. Given that tax is already paid, it seems redundant to report it to Revenue, but they seem to want it captured in the annual tax return. Anyone any ideas?

Anyone else having pay later issues this evening? It's not letting me buy well under my limit

I've had no internet applied to my Flexible Cash Fund account for the last 2 days, anyone else have the same issue?

    Same here.

I just asked the chat and am shocked it was useful for once...

    Response:

I'm sorry to hear that you're not receiving interest into your Flexible Cash Funds. There is currently an issue affecting interest payment delays in Flexible Cash Funds. However, please note that interest will still be accrued during this time. Our technical teams are actively working to resolve this issue as soon as possible. We apologise for the inconvenience.

Has anyone done the maths on receiving your deposit interest in Rev points instead?

The example given in the app (for ultra anyway) is if you have the max ecb guaranteed 100k on deposit,it will earn 270,000 Rev points per annum with no dirt or retention tax ie tax free?

This can be converted to 270,000 avios if spent wisely for example would get you return in a Q suite business class to Australia on Qatar airways ,value of 4 to 6000 euros or 4 to 6% return on the savings

Or multiple flights elsewhere to the same value

Saying this as interest rates are dipping

I'm completely new to the idea of Revolut. What interests me now is that I'll soon be going on a 4 day city break to Copenhagan where the currency is the Danish Krone.Hotel, tours, taxis, meals etc will all have to be paid while there and in the local currency, as well as needing some spending money? Does Revolut offer more attractive conversion rates than paying with my ordinary BOI Visa debit?

Thanks in advance for advice and do please excuse my ignorance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,704 ✭✭✭pureza

    yes they do

The Irish banks will not only have a margin on the rate, they charge a foreign currency commission on every transaction

I was actually in Copenhagen last week and exclusively used Rev

Here is one of the transactions

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,974 ✭✭✭acequion

Thanks so very much for that fast reply pureza. So if I understand you, with Revolut I would save on both the exchange rate and commission? Do Revolut not charge a commission? I see "No fee" on the example you kindly attached.

My trip is in two weeks exactly, leaving on 16th. Do I have enough time to apply?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,562 ✭✭✭optiplexgx270

Time to apply for what? If you mean to open an account you can do that in 15mins on your phone with a passport / ID. You can then create a virtual card and add it to your google or apple pay on your phone and use contactless where available. There is a good chance if you do it soon that the physical card will arrive on time.

There is one thing to note is that at the weekends there is a 1% surcharge on currency exchange so you should exchange in the app money from your euro wallet to your DKR wallet so that it come out of there when paying as weekend and not from euro account exchanging on the fly. If there is not sufficient funds in the DKR it will fall back to the amin Euro account but as I say if the week end you will see the 1% so its just something to keep in mind. (All customers, regardless of their plan, will be charged a 1% fee on all exchanges made on the weekend between 5pm Eastern Standard Time (EST) Friday and 6pm EST Sunday.)

And there is different limits per plan type for monthly free exchanges:

Also keep in mind the ATM withdrawal limits:

I am on metal but if I did this on Friday it would be free and I could use the DKK over the weekend without the 1%

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,974 ✭✭✭acequion

Thanks so very much, really appreciate all that info. I have just got set up on my phone, have the virtual card and ordered the physical one, which is to be here by 12th February so just before my trip if it arrives on time.

I arrive in Copenhagan around 5PM on a Sunday and need to pay to transfer to my hotel, so a good idea to have money in a DKR wallet, thanks for heads up. If I understand correctly does the 1% charge finish at 6PM? So eating out that Sunday evening, can I pay from my euro wallet?

I'm delighted to have got that set up with the great help of you guys here, so again, thanks ever so much.😀

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,562 ✭✭✭optiplexgx270

Not quite 6pm is EST (Eastern Standard Time so New York time zone) Copenhagen would be +6 hours of that (Dublin is +5) so midnight there. But again just add on Friday what you think you may need to cover you the Sunday transfer and meal and if you put too much in sure it will be used up during the week no doubt.

Do what I do in hotels, hand in your Irish credit card for the pre Auth and guarantee and then use Revolut to pay the final bill at checkout

The pre auth will be the room bill in full plus an amount per day they take as a pending for incidentals

The entire will be pending on your credit card but will drop off it a few days after you pay on Revolut
