Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

A lot of the poster in AH seems to work in IT

They appeared to strongly dislike their colleges or even hate them.

Everyone is out to shaft everyone else.

If a colleague dropped dead they would just walk over them and vice verse and they are happy enough with that.

Helping someone else with their work or project is a cardinal sin shows weakness.

Or is it just the IT types that post in AH.

Probably just after a bit of drama that they’re missing in their daily lives. It’s an occupation that can’t be all that exciting.

"IT types" is a very very very generalised term. OP would you use this as a catch all for anyone that uses a computer ? Just curious.

Dont know enougth about it really to say, but not everyone who uses a computer because nearly all work involves using a computer, I use a computer in work.

So no not referring to everyone who uses a computer in a work situation.

There seem to be two dominant demographics on this website:

The overweight, superhero film loving manchildren in their 30s, from Dublin who spend their nights eating and playing videogames. They'd usually be involved in working in IT and they're usually fairly harmless, if not without a hugely inflated sense of their own intelligence.

    Or

The overweight, middle aged, salt o'the Ert "woarking clahss" types from Dublin who think that they're both incredibly witty and that their propensity for "telling it like it is" is somehow extremely charming. Not only are these people not working in IT but they're probably afraid of using their computers for anything other than looking up betting odds and use their phones while lying in bed at seven in the evening with their tongues poking out.

The former get a much worse rap for being socially awkward but at least they're not likely to ask you a rhetorical question ending with "wha'???" and braying like a donkey. Both tend to be incredibly self indulgent with their eating habits, though.

Another one from boards and it is maybe because it is such a broad area of work and it may well be just those posting on AH.

They went to a school where 5 people did higher-level maths and they were one, told they were great, went to college and discovered that lad over there has been programming since the age of 5. They do college get on alright get a job and a bit of imposter syndrome set in, the actual intelligent ones realise their boss is nearly as clueless as they are so it become a bit of a game of 'I won't say anything if you dont say anything'.

After a few years hostage syndrome set in, in other words, they believe they would never get a job anywhere else.

Some people are just jealous of us the IT types. I try to help the less computer literate when I can, in most cases it is not their fault they were not able to learn the basics.

She does that when taking length as well. The problem is misaligned phase transitions in the power supply - here, dribble into the end of this specially-adapted AC power cord, that'll sort it.

She should ask you for advice, being an expert on taking length yourself.

Someone I am closely related to got a job on an IT helpline for a major retailer, the staff was to phone if anything went wrong with the tills and the like. After a few weeks, they frequently said never underestimate the sheer stupidity of a lot of people.

Thats bound to affect people after a while.

Tech support is thankless, soul-destroying crap and most of the time shaving your head with a cheesegrater is a more fruitful and enjoyable endeavour. That is not what "IT" work is.
