Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

It will be funny looking back on this thread in a few years when Martinelli wins the golden boot for the third year in a row at 21 and tells Barca and their £200m offer to "Fackin do one, mate, I'm already with the Champions League winners. Innit blood?"

No game on Saturday again. I love when we play on Saturday. We seem to lose less.

Don't worry, there's a very strong chance we'll be back on Saturdays next season.

Showing confidence of a return to the Chamions League. I like it!

Apparently Paulo Sousa has interviewed for the job.

It's all very mid table mediocrity.

Why would Ancellotti join us? And why is he gone from Napoli?

Funny to see Gabriel hasn't changed a bit , red card for Valencia

Inter, Ajax and Salzburg all drop into the europa league

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,342 ✭✭✭Bobby Baccala

Looks like Contés inter will be joining us in the Europa, a team I'd be keen for us to avoid. Id kinda like us to be knocked out of the Europa early so we have some sort of chance of top 4.

How would you all feel about Biesla the Leeds manager? Has them playing great football and only lacks scoring to make his team near perfect. With our forwards, he'd surely fix that!

Don’t believe we have a chance of top 4 tbh.

We're 7 points off 4th at the moment so there some sort of chance at least.

I know I'm a fool for hoping but there's still a long season ahead of us, a lot could happen between now and May.

He's managed three English clubs but none were even in the PL. Christ almighty

Shortly after Napoli beat Genk 4-0, Ancelotti said: "I’ll talk with the president tomorrow. It’s a mutually agreed meeting to evaluate the current situation."
He never had that chat as less than 2 hours later, Napoli announced his sacking.

He's now the bookies favourite for the job. I feel we could do worse though he certainly won't be a revolutionary force at the club.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,661 ✭✭✭✭Arghus

I'd take Ancelotti over Arteta, Viera, etc, even Benitiez.

I don't think any of the other names that are being mentioned are going to realistically come to the club. Can't see Poch coming to Arsenal, Rodgers seems pretty secure where he is for the time being, Allegri is always mentioned but where's the evidence that he wants the Arsenal job? I think Eddie Howe is a risk: just because he has Bournemouth punching above their weight, it doesn't mean that he'll be able to handle a club of Arsenal's stature.

Ancelotti definitely has question marks hanging over him too. Maybe he's not the coach he once was, but his CV is still very impressive and he has experience of managing at big clubs. Personally, I always thought he was a classy enough guy as well. I wouldn't turn my nose up at the prospect of him.

I feel his best days are long behind him as a manager. Napoli look to be appalling in the league this year too. Wouldn’t fill you with confidence. On the other hand his CV is veeeeery impressive. I think he’d cost too much for Arsenal though...how’s his English???

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,756 ✭✭✭emergingstar

Ancelotti is well passed it, we should take a gamble and try a young coach

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,108 ✭✭✭✭Quazzie

The only way I'd want Ancelotti would be if it was until the end of the season as a measure to steady the ship.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,603 ✭✭✭grumpymunster

Ancelotti's English is very good, I think he could be a marvelous fit for you guys he is as calm as they come and he has a PL & FA cup double under his belt before he was disgracefully sacked by us.
Finishing an easy second to a rampant Juve side last season and getting Napoli out of a difficult PL group this season (Salzburg are a very good side gave Liverpool very good games) is no mean feat.

He may not be the long term answer but I think your chances of a CL place would improve greatly with him on board.

Could be very exciting for top 4 this season only Liverpool look assured at this stage (though Rodgers is doing great work at Leicester).

Better option than Arteta and his iPad.

Personally I’m willing to give Freddie a few more games before we rush to appoint anyone.

The Napoli players didn’t try a leg for him. You think our lot would?

Perhaps we should ask them first?

Personally I don't want a coach / manager with no experience in top European Leagues, that's a step down even from Emery who at least had relevant experience / won European trophies.

No former Gooner players fit the bill, Vierra is in a tin pot league, Arteta, Bergkamp just coaches. Freddie is not up to the job. Ex Arsenal managers / players haven't made that important next step up like Fat Chav Frank or Gollum Solskjaer.

It has to be a top European league manager with proven success. Some are available at present. Others require contracts being bought out.

Getting the next level down will cost as much, Pochettino has a contract that will have to be bought out, as does Rodgers.

The club will probably go with the very cheapest option & Everton will pay the going rate.

If Xhaka starts against City after his shyt show the other night then Freddy is done for me. Surely he has to have seen how poor he was?

Agree on Xhaka but not if we’re going to simply replace Freddie with Arteta. It would be a disastrous appointment.

I want a proven manager with the ability to organise a defence.
Neither of the above up to scratch imo.

Don’t want to see Xhaka start again.

I have a lot of time for Ancelotti and all he's achieved over the years but I believe now he is a manager on the down and I'd been keen to stay away from managers on a downward curve. That being said I'd be all for him till the end of the season but I assume his reputation is of such that he wouldn't be interested in a short term role.

Interesting quotes coming out of Josh Kroenke saying that he's going to increase his involvement with the club but more crucially will sanction increased transfer funds.

What's his involvement in KSE's other teams? Has he got any at all?

He's president of the Denver Nuggets basketball and Colorado Avalanche ice hockey and also involved in Colorado Rapids soccer

Did you even watch the game? He was on the ground for quite some time during the second half after being hit on the side of the head by a driven cross. He tried to play on, but was very obviously struggling and he sat down again to enable the substitution.

Oh yes I did. Thought it was poetic justice myself.
