Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Is there something actually wrong with Shane - is he sick (apart from his obvious health issues)? Just a few people have said about this being a “goodbye” to him

"Goodbye" me hole. In better nick than recent years. G'wan Shane, keep defying the odds and the misery whores.

Love to see him give "sick bed of cuchulainn" a go.

    Genius lyricist.

Sad to see someone reduced to his current state owing to addiction :(

Does anyone actually know Shane was born in England and lived there for all his life except for 6 years?

Fail to see the massive Irish connection.

Many great artists destroyed themsleves to create the art we enjoy today.
The places McGowan went...in the world and within himself informs the art he created. The songs wouldn't exist otherwise.

I am not gonna judge him, I'll judge the art and it is a magnificent body of work.

I don't think people are judging him as such, his music is loved by all don't think anyone would argue against that.
I think it's more the whole show ..it just seems in bad taste. Shane looks so ill, can barely speak. It's very very uncomfortable to watch and extremely sad.

A lot of hate here which I find a little sad.
Can you not see that this is a goodbye to a man who has given a lot of joy to people over many years? A genius. An immensely flawed genius, but a genius nevertheless.
Not alone can he not stand, he can't sit up straight. It's a miracle he's on live television.
    Have a bit of respect.

The man is a songwriting genius. He has done more than anyone else on this thread.

Some musician, got to see them in New York od St Patricks day years ago. Would have loved if the entire show was devoted to him and the Pogues.

Bit strange having a wake for McGowan when he's still there

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,987 ✭✭✭Pauliedragon

He's ****ed now, Liam Neeson is after him.
Na he's grand, Neeson only goes after coloured folk these days.:p

What is actually up with Shane. Is it a condition of some sort or just down to past lifestyle. This seems a bit crass having him on. The untouched pint prop is a bit awful
He looks a bit yellow I would say the drink has wrecked his liver.

Pat Shortts new comedy character was a errr treat wasn't it?

But is he, teeth look like someone elses, hair great for a man of his age, maybe the cloning has not been perfected facially.

Being born in a stable doesn't make you a horse. Look at Jesus (who coincidentally shares a birthday with Shane MacGowan).

He's not there against his will and imo he is entitled to the honour and the honour is due, if we honour others.

Is there going to be someone on now that explains how the homeless crisis is being fuelled by people using it as a way to skip the social housing queue? Our is it just another one sided affair as usual.

The guitarist with black shirt with white dots on it is bloody amazing. He's carrying the whole band.

Potentially a touch of Korsakoff’s syndrome, or ‘wet brain’ as it’s more commonly referred to.

What's actually wrong with him? Does he have a medical condition, has he had a stroke etc.?

Or is it just years of alcohol & drug abuse stopped his body working?

    He's only 60 or so.

Shane McGowan I mean, not Tubs

This is one of the most tragic performances I have ever seen by a man that is embarrassingly a shadow of his former self. A live most wasted and ravaged by excess, legal and illegal. Gone are the glory days of when he played "Tom" in Father Ted.

You had me all the way til the end, well played sir.

Rainy night in Soho needs McGowan’s voice.

The fact that we all know it's a pre-record and they are trying to style it as an impromptu session is very cringey...

Born there to Irish parents, lived here for about 7 years as a kid. Hardly completey unconnected to be fair.

What is it with hansard? His frames live album is once of the best around, but this sh!t and his Eddie Vedder stuff seems so fake or something

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,337 ✭✭✭✭monkey9

Christ, people moaning about this being a wake and that it's 'shameful' and why is it in a pub. Were they saying the same thing about the tribute to John Sheehan a few months back.

Get a grip, it's a great sing song and trip down memory lane.

    You’re one humpy fcuker.
A joy to live with or be in the same company of I’d say.

True. He just is so incoherent, ill, drunk can't stand up, sit up etc..he looks shocking!! I don't know ..probably not the best way to honour him imo.

They need to lose that saxophone player.
