Have always used pay as you go, topping up with credit. Is bill pay better?? Don't really understand it

It probably depends on your usage requirements. In general, Bill-pay works out better value, particularly if you are in a position to bundle your mobile with fibre Broadband and/or TV. Roaming outside of EU can sometimes be difficult on some pay-as-you-go offers. As against that, pay-as-you-go ensures that you will never end up with any surprises on your bill.

The current GoMo €9.99 per month offer is a good compromise if you are transitioning from pay-as-you-go to bill-pay, as out-of-bundle charges are capped at €30 max, although the vast majority of users will find that their usage is covered by the €9.99 offer. Hard to beat this with any of the pay-as-you go deals currently.

Some services that are offered to Bill-pay customers may not be available to pay-as-you-go. For example Eir reserve their WiFi calling service for their normal Bill-pay customers, and they don't offer it either to Pay-as-you-go or their GoMo customers.

    Be aware of the terminology...

In the old days bill pay included a handset...nowadays bill pay contracts that include a phone are poor value when compared to buying your own handset and subscribing to a SIM only service. If your current phone is network unlocked, then you just get a new SIM from whichever network you choose to subscribe to.

SIM only will also mean a recurring charge per month plus any use that's not covered in the plan...you still get a bill to pay every month but you can leave and switch to another network whenever you want after the first month.

Then there's PAYG which is the best option to control spend.

IMO bill pay with a phone is the worst option as you're tied to a contract and can't leave before the contract term ends without being penalized. Even when the contract has ended they will put you on a rolling monthly contract at the same/similar rate that had included a phone that has already been paid for...there are upgrade options but that may tie you in to another contract term.

PAYG still has good value but Gomo's offer of 10 per month on SIM only has lured many from PAYG.
