Who’s lending these people money to be spent any which way they like !
    Same with fai !
It’s all falling back on the ordinary person to pick up these losses!

They are extremely likely to be secured loans in this case.

Back in the early 2000s the people of the Armagh diocese had to donate for the redevelopment of Armagh cathedral even though there was no need for anyone to ever go to Armagh cathedral.

Will those secured loans, now that the organization is in liquidation, be available for purchase? People would jump at the opportunity to buy them up, knock down a few churches and build community centers/abortion provider space/playgrounds/...

One wonders exactly how they're 'secured' (what real assets...)

    Sorry but the article says:

"A note attached to the accounts states that the ICBC has agreed to meet the company’s liabilities."

    Who’s giving them money?

Well it would appear no one is, that’s why it’s being wound up.

Gas when the rush to jump on the oul' Catholic bashing means that you don't even read the article.

Would you be posting the same shite on here if Jewish people organised a Jewish-related event and set up a company specifically to run that event. Then the year of the actual event it spent more than its income for that year. Then subsequently to the event the organisers decided to wind down the company, covering all liabilities.

Bit mad the level of naked intolerance and bigotry some people have

That’s fraud what ever way u look at it , chruch , religion , Protestant Jewish catholic has nothing to do with it ! Grow up

What is your issue with them being loaned money. You seem to equate being loaned money with a failure to pay it back. That is strange.

FAI is a shambles and have a black hole in their accounts and are looking for a government bailout.

The Catholic Church appears to have set up a company as a special vehicle to run an event. The company spent more than it took in last year and the Church is paying off the bills. I'm not seeing where your issue is with it.

Here's an analogy which you might understand as it does not have the hatred-tinted glasses you appear to be wearing.
Suppose MCD music promoters want to set up a festival called "Shyte in Mullingar". So they set up a spin off arm called MCD-Shyte. The spin-off runs the festival but ends up spending more than it takes in. So when the festival is over, MCD winds up MCD-Shyte and pay off its debts. Do you think that that is somehow a bailout by the taxpayer?

Do you have any evidence that the church are paying off the liabilities?

This is a separate legal entity and it has gone into liquidation with assets of €71,387 from income of €14m. Why would the church pay their debts? Out of the goodness of their hearts? Just like they dragged out the redress scheme payments, which were scandalously reduced from whta they ought to have been.

The head of the charity regulator recently admitted that they are vastly under staffed and have no hope of catching non compliance within charities without the aid of whistleblowers or external auditors raising concern and fear scandals like Console are happening or will happen again.

There are massive issues regarding transparency and governance in charities and this does little to dispel that feeling.

    Ya wha?

What would you accept as "evidence"? Would I have had to look at their bank statements and verify the transactions?

The article report said that in the filings that the costs are being covered. Perhaps you think the article is lying? ................and if so you do it based on.....???? Your own prejudices???? ANy "evidence" yourself.

It would seem like a perfectly normal method to set up a dedicated vehicle for a one-off event like that. It would also be perfectly normal that loans to such a vehicle would need a guarantor. Which is what I would assume is the case here.

Mad how people's bigotry leads them to their own conclusions. Must be tiring always being on the look out for something that they can twist to their own agenda....

Fair enough, I can admit I was wrong, didn't see this line in the article on first viewing "A note attached to the accounts states that the ICBC has agreed to meet the company’s liabilities."
