    Hi there,

    I'm a mature student in 2nd year. I was 23 when I entered college im now 25.

I've recently become I'll and have been out of my part time job for two months. I work in retail and have been employed there for 4 years. I've recently been sent a letter from my employer that they will have to terminate my employment as I am unfit to work and haven't been holding my contract

I was wondering if I am entitled to any social welfare payments as I'm currently not working and do not live at home. I was relying on my job to live.

    Thanks for any input!

Have you checked citizensinformation.ie? if you have enough contributions, you may well be entitled to illness benefit. You need to check, or just call the welfare department and ask them. Nothing at all to lose.

I’m not sure college students qualify for illness benifet.

AFAIK, you won't get illness benefit.

Perhaps talk to the college to see if you're eligible for any grants?

Goto your student union welfare officer and see if they can help

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.
