Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

After mucking about with the ‘Enhanced Edition’ fan mods, and the HD mods for the abandonware Silent Hill 2 and Simpsons : Hit and Run (highly recommend it) respectively, does anyone have any suggestions for similar older games that have been reworked?

Age of empires 2 and Warcraft 3 reforged. Two classic Giants that are officially updated.

Never was a big fan of Age of empires, but Warcraft 3 stole a lot of time from me when I was young. Even had a proper legal version of it ( in eastern Europe that's big back in the day ), which costed half on monthly wages. Was well worth it.

The Elder Scrolls games have had endless full mods made for them including reworking the older games with the newer games graphics such as SkyWind or Morroblivion

Black Mesa was free before they commercialised it and is half of the original Half Life game updated and extended, I think the Xen part is out or coming soon

Vampire: The Masquerade has had people continually working on it to finish areas that were never completed and fix all the bugs

Similar to KOTOR 2 where they have restored uncompleted areas

have a look at this list for games that have had complete overhauls

The Dark mod is supposed to be very good

Gog has just re-released the classic 1997 adventure game Blade Runner which was loosely based on the film. I loved this game when it first came out.

Can you even legally get the games you mentioned any more? I wish they were on Steam.

I've also heard high praise for the Dark Mod, effectively a new Thief game but the names changed to avoid legal hassle. IIRC it has been going for years now but they're still releasing updates & new missions (there's no campaign as such, levels are community made)

And for fans of Deus Ex, there's a free overhaul mod that you can download via Steam; I've played around with it a little and definitely gives the now-creaking game a bit of a spit-polish.
