Teachers should watch that TV programme from the 80's called FAME

That was a great example of getting students to embrace their creativity.

Just because you don't see it doesn't make it any more real or not as you believe....

    Real world problems are here....

This other BLM crap is an absolute sh1t show in the states and many good police officers have been gunned down because of it....

Of course if someone does wrong law or not they should be held accountable.

Because Irish students are the bastion of well behaved rounded individuals. What a ridiculous thread. Did the OP ever go to school in Ireland. Because in the 80's and 90's all i remember school being was a free for all.

It doesnt matter where they are from, if kids see parents profiting from being disruptive and whinging, the kids are going to do that too.

This other BLM crap is an absolute sh1t show in the states and many good police officers have been gunned down because of it....

Some of the work I do has touched the core of this issue and mate you are talking absolute shi**.

Calling the Black Lives Matter movement crap completely shows you up. It's a movement founded from the reality that black people are majorly disproportionally affected by policing, police brutality and all sorts of negative outcomes. It is a structure of systemic inequality. I would be here all day saying how they are affected by systemic racism but it's not my job to educate you can do that all on your own. Anyone can look up information and researched statistics around this. Getting shot by police is a leading cause of death of young black men in the states but sure lets talk about the massively smaller # in comparison of good police officers who have been gunned down...

Oh right so say that to the 5 cop's murdered in Dallas amount 2 that I recall in New York also among many others.....

You well within your rights to have your opinion but so am I and I am in no way standing over any wrong doing which I made clear on any side but the extremes they go to to cause riots and then more bloodshed.

If a cop guns someone down for no reason or totally wrong etc then that's an absolute travesty and should be done and rightly so....

I don't take kindly to your attack on me personally.

Alot of the older generation are extremely racist, maybe without meaning it. Its horrible to hear a seemingly intelligent person say 'oh if I was a foreigner or a refugee I'd get my dole/medical card/house wouldn't I?'

    That attitude stinks ^^^

    Does it though ?

If you’ve lived here all your life, contributed, payed tax, worked hard... but a situation occurs where your health is compromised and your income and or savings are being given a hit having to pay out... yet people who are recent arrivals are being facilitated and you are not. I can imagine that’s a hard pill to swallow.

It’s not racist, your gripe isn’t against those who are benefiting your gripe is with the system who are not recognizing your need too, contributions thus far and helping you too...

They took away my mothers medical card, having worked and contributed here for all her life, she has a gripe not with immigrants or indeed anyone else in receipt of help but with them being given one and her and people in her situation NOT... she questions the fairness of that.

Amazing how all the ambulance, doctors etc were all waiting for those found on the boat inbound from abroad, they were given shelter, medical, food etc and wait hold on they left for the UK.... Of course to be with the rest of their families already there....

It's absolutely nuts what's going on...

Look I don't want to send this post off into a different direction because the issue of black people being disproportionately affected by police violence in the US isn't what this post is about. But when I saw that comment about the Black Lives Matter movement being called crap while highlighted police who are shot in the line of duty smacks of ignorance and racism. I've called it out now the work is on you to look for the real facts. Of why there is a BLM movement. Black lives matter because they have been treated like they don't matter. It is a fact that black people in the US - and I will post an article from the UK too - are disproportionately affected by police violence. The point is, is that although black people make up a much smaller % of the population, they are targeted, imprisoned and killed at far higher rates than white people. Heres an article from the UK highlighting a similar problem

Just after reading the first few pages of the thread and not sure the direction it’s going at the moment.
In a college recently I noticed a young Nigerian guy pull the race card during a row with the principal. Shouting that he was only getting disciplined because “I am black”
Quick is a light the principle insists that he “ is getting a disciplinary warning because he is a effen idiot”. Any more inappropriate behavior and he will be removed from the course.

I’m sure it’s much different in schools but as an adult they won’t get away with it.

Probably same sort of individual that was in the video a few months ago of young lad on scrambler, where guard tried to arrest him and they said ‘I’m only 14!’.

Scumbags are scumbags and use any card , race, upbringing, money.

I’d say majority of Africans in Ireland worked hard to get here and continue to do so.

Principals need to adapt to culture change, and up to speed with how to react if someone pulls race cars. Quick discipline meeting with ma and da will sort that!

Regarding the OP, classes and schools differ. It's not the case that Africans are more disruptive than anyone else, or more likely to throw out the race card. It's simply your daughters experience. I've taught disadvantaged classes for the community center which has teenagers and adults from both Migrant and Traveller backgrounds. Some students are disruptive and some are not. Some students try to use intimation and violence against their teachers, while others are awesome. It happens.

Tell your daughter to accept it, and learn to deal with it. Multicultural classrooms are normal now and it's not going to change. Seek advice from the Principal, and more experienced teachers on classroom discipline. I find with students that you need to set &inform them of clear rules, boundaries and punishment, right from the beginning, and the punishments must be followed through on. Otherwise all respect is lost, and the students take control. It would be useful for her to learn something of her students culture and determine her place in it. Some cultures won't respond well to female teachers, but within cultural norms, they'll have developed a way for it to work. She might just need to explore other ways (less western) to manage the students.

Next term, she'll probably get a wonderful class. It's just the way things are with teaching. Some classes are just hell. Most aren't.

BLM makes every problem that black people have in the States about racism. It cares nothing for the evolution of black culture, single mothers, educational failure, crime etc. It simply wants to pass all responsibility away from black people, and place it squarely on everyone else. It applies double standards and encourages violence. Nah. BLM are too similar to the Black Panthers for me to ever tolerate them as a force for good, and reasonable behavior.

Give it over. Most people who scream racist in these forums tend to be sugercoating their cause by only looking on one side of the argument, refusing to accept anything that doesn't agree with their "black/white" (no pun) good/bad scenario.

We have at least 12 different nationalities in our school . They all add to the life of the school community. The “ Gaelscoils are for middle class white Irish “ line seems to get trotted out quite a lot .
