I'll try a restart of the PC - see video just posted. Thanks again...

    Spotted the video, apologies.

I don't think you've actually tried XPSP3 based on that video

Should I try a fresh install and NOT do ther command prompt entries for the missing DLLs or is this a necessary step?

I've aded thie file as per these instructions:

    For 3D

The file is: d3drm.dll, and it can be found at http://www.anarchia.com/dettagli-gratis/File-D3drm-dll-4850.html
Put it in the Windows/Program Files (X86)/Microsoft/Office/ folder (you will probably have later Office folders - such as Office 16. This one simply says Office). You will also see there a PhotoDraw folder - you don't have to worry about that - simply put it in the Office folder.
    3D now works.

It seems that the DLLs are needed...
I just find it odd that regsvr32 is not giving any information back.

Have you checked the event log for error messages?

The DLL's look to have been registered though - otherwise I would have expected an error or three on application startup.

Seems that those DLLs failed to register.
Try a Windows update and restart?

    Anyone help me resolve this?

    Thanks!

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,865 ✭✭✭The_B_Man

I'm not familiar with PhotoDraw. Is it part of Ms Office?

Like its saying in the error:
    Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office\PHOTODRW.EXE
    Faulting module path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office\MSO9.DLL

So do you have to have the rest of MS Office installed too?
    what happens if u type
    regsvr32 C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office\MSO9.DLL

BTW, there might be 2 versions of regsvr32:
Note On a 64-bit version of Windows operating system, there are two versions of the Regsv32.exe file:
    The 64-bit version is %systemroot%\System32\regsvr32.exe.
    The 32-bit version is %systemroot%\SysWoW64\regsvr32.exe.

Since your files are in "C:\Program Files (x86)" and therefore 32-bit, you might try the 32-bit regsvr32.

    Hi,

Photodraw is a stand alone graphics app like an early photoshop.

I'm not that proficient with coding or registry entires so I might need a little hand holding..

Can you clarify what the next step to try is pelase.

THis is what appears when I type that code you suggested:

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,865 ✭✭✭The_B_Man

    try
    regsvr32 "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office\MSO9.DLL"

with the quotes, as there is a space in the file path.

BTW, when you originally installed PhotoDraw, did you install it under compatibility mode with Windows 8? Or did you just click and run the installer? It might be an idea to right click the installer and go into Properties and set compatibilty with windows 8 and try again. It might save you some hassle in the long run.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,056 ✭✭✭sticker

Hi See below video for fresh install under compatibility mode with Windows 8

    Thanks

Your windows version is not on S-Mode or anything is it?
    Is this a new machine?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,056 ✭✭✭sticker

Its a brand new machine - Not sure... How do I check?

    Thanks

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,300 ✭✭✭✭SteelyDanJalapeno

You can check whether you're using S Mode by heading to Settings > System > About. On the About page, scroll down to the “Windows Specifications” section. If you see the words “in S mode” to the right the Edition entry, you're using an S Mode PC.

    Nope looks fine

I'm really stuck without this app - all my graphics files for work are in the .mix format for Photodraw!

Do you still have access to the "old PC"? Or a working copy of the app?

Yes! Its on my old PC - works fine udner windows 7 but I would need to setup new monitor/mouse keyboard etc...

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,865 ✭✭✭The_B_Man

I think you're installing with Windows XP SP3 compatibility.
Can you install with Windows 8 Compatibility?

I presume you've tried to launch it by trying each OS in the compatibility options? Win XP and Windows 7 etc...

Do you need to have other software installed, like the rest of MS Office? There's errors about Visual FoxPro and database stuff.

Is there any way you can "convert" or open/save the .mix files on the old PC to a more generic file format?

I bought a key for Microsoft Office Pro Plus 2019 and thought it was installed... word, outlook excel are all there...

I dont think so - Its the file extension only for Photodraw. I can convert them to jpegs but I cant edit the files properly like an .eps file for Photshop as example.

Might it be worth considering using GIMP or similar (ie moving to a more widely supported and less likely to cause these issues in the future) application?

Looks likely - Might start on a Photoshop tutorial. Such a shame as others have managed it on Windows 10...

Yeah but they've probably managed it on a different version of windows 10 and/or combination of other software on the PC.
There are some differences between the various versions of windows 10 that would make a difference here.

I'd start doing a tutorial on GIMP if I were you - no cost software as opposed to photoshop.

People who got it working on Windows 10 seemed to have had it working on Windows 7/8 and upgraded to Windows 10 inline, rather than a clean install.

Also, there's people online talking about taking those DLLs from the PhotoDraw installer CD because the newer Windows 10 ones don't work with it. I wonder is that an option? Or maybe try another installer?

BTW, the office files are located at "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\" (at least on my PC) but if you can open Word or Excel then obviously you have it installed.
