Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

So wtf is the rule with VAR? There was a definite handball by a Watford player there, hands not at his side, but it wasn't even reviewed? Shouldn't VAR call that back?

Definitely accidental, but that's not supposed to matter anymore...right?

Did Watford score? Or was the Watford player defending? Different rules for both situations.

Watford defender in his own box. Lucas touched it, defender had his hand out at 90 degrees, hit his hand and then cleared it.

Apparently it was checked? (according to a randomer on reddit).

Haven't seen it but there's something in the rules that if the ball comes off another player at close range it's not a handball I think.

It's still has to be deliberate handball when it's a defender.

I'd say it's bull**** but saw on Reddit and people are saying he's been reliable on early team news so far this season.

That was a red for the Watford player IMO. Inches away from being a legbreaker.

This has been an awfully shíte half of football

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,300 ✭✭✭✭razorblunt

They’re deliberately fûcking up VAR I’m convinced of it. Sitting on their hands again for a red card offence that goes unpunished.

How are Watford not ahead? Awful misses.

Yeah it's got to be nonsense. Epidural incoming tomorrow, he'll start.

VAR checking for violent conduct red card.

VAR checking for violent conduct red card.
I always thought even a b*tchslap was a red card. I genuinely struggle to understand what the officiating standards are anymore. Not 100% sure they exist.

Peno to Watford, Deeney to step up. VAR first of course.

Can't believe they're disallowing goals by millimetres.

They've been doing it since the start of the season, I think we'd all be used to it now.

Would you prefer they gave goals which haven't fully crossed the line.

The rule is clear and obvious in the case of goal line tech thankfully.

Spurs have gone from being a decent side to watch to being fairly grim. The Mourinho effect is in full swing.

Yep - 3 league games without a goal.

Thinking this is the "Mourinho effect" clearly shows you haven't watched much of Spurs for a while now. This is a continuation of our ****e form from early last year.

  • Registered Users Posts: 17,022 ✭✭✭✭Iused2likebusts

Im surprised how its going with mourinho now. I really expected him to push them on and get top 4 but they have been very poor the past month.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,409 ✭✭✭✭gimli2112

I've no issue with Spurs but Christ I hate Mourinho, He was all jolly and smiles leading up to the game last week. Nothing to lose, hoping to end Liverpool's run. Even with their miss near the end big smile and laugh. Noticed he's reverted to form this week. You'll see a bitter man in the after match press conference this week

More style than results. I'd have expected results to be better while maintaining the not so nice to watch football.

They've been doing it since goal line technology came in, a technology that is flawless.

I know but with the offsides we've had lots more goals ruled out by mm's this season.

Not sure there's a more dislikeable person in football. He couldn't even maintain his initial happiness when he got the job for more than a month.

Fair play to Watford and Pearson. Excellent few weeks now, they should stay up

Catastrophe for Bournemouth - 10 men, peno conceded and Harry Wilson sacrificed and he's not a happy bunny.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,378 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

Is it only tackles then that it's a yellow and a penalty?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 40,061 ✭✭✭✭Harry Palmr

    Palace - Tosun!

    City defending yet again.

    Brighton also up v Villa

City lucky not to have conceded a penalty for this? Rashford got one a few weeks ago for something very similar to that.

Edit I know Zaha steps into Stones but Stones is never getting that ball anyway?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,289 ✭✭✭✭rob316

Absolutely stone wall and pep knew it too. I think zaha reputation went against him there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,294 ✭✭✭tanko

Stones just stands his ground, Zaha throws himself into Stones and falls over. That type of stuff shouldn't be a pen.

Never a peno for me. Zaha barges into a Stone who stands his ground.

You can't be standing your ground when you move your leg to try get the ball.

Soton 2 - 2 Wolves. Unexpected comeback here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,089 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

That Zaha move is so famous, even other players are copying him. He jumps into the City player to make contact and win a penalty. He actually runs away from the ball and into the player instead.

Harry Kane is another who loves it.

Oh, i forgot that defenders aren't allowed to move their legs. Zaha was looking for a pen. He basically dived there. Too much of that crap going on.

Stones moves his right leg across as well. He shouldn't be putting his leg in there because he can never win the ball from where he is.

What he should be doing is forcing Zaha to the end line.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,791 ✭✭✭✭JPA

Zaha was trying to create a foul out of nothing there. Why would he move his right leg like that?

    No penalty LOL

It was a penalty all season up to the last 50 seconds. But not today. haha

How can he not possibly win the ball from two feet away?

It’s never a penalty. Not a fan of Stones or City but there’s no use manufacturing controversy just so they can be hit with something either.

Soton 2 - 3 Wolves! Amazing comeback here.

Norwich player sent off - so 10 v 10 now.

I've never said it was a penalty and have said that Zaha moved towards Stones.

But it's poor defending from Stones. I honestly don't think he can get that ball especially if Zaha moves the ball to the left instead of going to step in.

Ah ok, your post sounded like you thought it was a foul is all.

Its not great defending by any stretch. My reading of that clip is that Zaha is purposefully showing him the ball in order to draw a challenge from Stones so that he can then quickly shift the ball or get some part of his body between Stones and the ball again thus drawing the foul. But Zaha is too late in his own execution and there is no foul.

Now John Stones is at a level and has played enough games that he should know when opposition players are doing this, particularly one like Zaha who has done it many times before. There are plenty lads at much much lower levels who can do it.

Zaha just plays him for a fool and very nearly succeeds.
