That was a really well worked goal by Palace. Yeah lucky with the own goal finish, but holding the ball in midfield and playing Zaha through was very good

Ah ok, your post sounded like you thought it was a foul is all.

Its not great defending by any stretch. My reading of that clip is that Zaha is purposefully showing him the ball in order to draw a challenge from Stones so that he can then quickly shift the ball or get some part of his body between Stones and the ball again thus drawing the foul. But Zaha is too late in his own execution and there is no foul.

Now John Stones is at a level and has played enough games that he should know when opposition players are doing this, particularly one like Zaha who has done it many times before. There are plenty lads at much much lower levels who can do it.

Zaha just plays him for a fool and very nearly succeeds.

No no I was just saying they were lucky it wasn't a pen because there's been a few similar pens given this season. If it had of been given Zaha 100% would have bought it.

If Zaha was (to use the MOTD term) more "clever" he wouldn't have stepped into Stones but move the ball to his left and then fall over Stones leg as it comes across him.

Are Liverpool still looking at other teams results?!

Are city going to be able to defend again when Laporte is back or is there more to their collapse this season?

I was just thinking about this today for the Watford Spurs game I really didn't care. Over the past two years, the early months of the season aside, I haven't cared a jot for anyone else's results but City and for a time this year Leicester.
It's really strange as a Liverpool fan not caring what happens to Utd. Tomorrow aside for obvious reasons.
We're playing Utd tomorrow for those of you that have given up football

Hodgson is some coach. Looks like he might have revived something in his new striker too, though it's Tosun to say.

Yeah get him into United to steady the ship when Ole goes.

Wonder what Ederson's saves to shot ratio is? He seems to have fallen off a cliff

    Certainly no turkey...

This Chelsea game feels like a reprise of the Spurs one, both teams reasonably happy with a 0-0...

That's poor keeping from Kepa for the Newcastle goal. He does have plenty of examples of that during his time in the PL.

Great job Bruce is doing they are as good as safe. He's not at odds with the board which probably helps.

City lucky not to have conceded a penalty for this? Rashford got one a few weeks ago for something very similar to that.

Edit I know Zaha steps into Stones but Stones is never getting that ball anyway?

The player going to ground in a somewhat similar incident in the Chelsea game actually got booked. Kind of 50 shades of grey in these situations where the attacking player arguably initiates the contact, very difficult for the officials...

Steve Bruce doing some job with Newcastle

I haven't seen the Chelsea one but it'll be interesting to see what the MOTD panel say about both.

Emerson was going much more blatantly out of his way to initiate the contact than Zaha, but Alan Smith was still surprised to see him booked as that usually only happens when there's no contact at all.

This was a good decision, Emerson dived 100%.

I know it's the French League and this isn't the right thread but Cherki had his first start for Lyon tonight at 16 years and 5 months old. Scored two, had two assists and won a penalty.

    Definitely one to watch.

Unreal what a debut. I couldn't tell my arse from my elbow at that age. Nothing has changed in that regard.

The Ligue 1 thread is very quiet so thought it'd be worth sharing in here as it's quite impressive anyway.

All we want is a bit of consistency. Whether with var or the treatment of posters.
It's the inconsistency that annoys people.

Emerson yellow was correct. Clearly kicked into the defender trying to deceive the official into awarding a penalty. Wonder if a peno was awarded would vat have overturned? Prob not me thinks

In fairness, that’s difficult to do, as I usually tell my elbow apart from by whether or not I can lick. You can’t lick your arse or your elbow, yourself.

Time for Howe to go. Long past time in fact. Utterly toxic performance yesterday. They are completely devoid of form or cohesiveness. He did a great job and he'll get another shot somewhere again but time for everyone to move on imo.

Tielemans benched for the second week in a row with Praet preferred. Had a feeling his form would dip, as it did at Monaco. I remember United fans wanting him to be signed last season. Dodged a bullet there.

Keane is refreshingly honest but I disagree with him on this point, it kind of feels personal. They're a great side whether they have longetivity is another thing.
