Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Keane is refreshingly honest but I disagree with him on this point, it kind of feels personal. They're a great side whether they have longetivity is another thing.

That debate has been held with so many former players etc about what makes a great team. How many titles are needed etc to be classed as great? It's all subjective, had a pundit from an Italian/German whatever team said the same would people get wound up about it?
Even Blackburn won one league but aren't a great team.

It's just if you look at their record not just this year but the past two years and bearing in mind they got to a CL final 2 and a half years ago and a Europa a year before that. The Leeds side of the 70s is considered a great team but won comparatively little. People trying to tell themselves this Liverpool team isn't great are seeking solace for what's happening, in my opinion.

He's such a poor pundit, no insight, just joe.ie soundbites

A pure troll, would fit in around here at times.

Really hate the BS that surrounds the Liverpool/United games, normally sane lads {supporting both sides) become A55holes for a week.

In other news Leicester are winning. I have Vardy as captain in my FF team and he's hardly touched the ball.

Many fans on here don't like to hear it but this is an abysmal league. You judge greatness by the competition available. Ali is considered the greatest because of his bouts with the likes of Foreman and Frazier, not because he fought bums. Federer the greatest because of clashes with Nadal and Djokovic, not because he beat poor players.

Ask yourselves dispassionately - impossible on this forum I know - if the Chelsea, Arsenal, Man United, Man City or Tottenham sides of this season are great sides, or in the top tier of their sides historically? When you're ready to answer that question, without resorting to barbs and hissy fits, then you have your answer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,409 ✭✭✭✭gimli2112

but you can say that about any era. Liverpool's rivals in the early 80s were Ipswich and Watford, although that Ipswich side was awesome. United had a free run Arsenal aside for many years.
I think the likes of Chelsea, City and Utd with their purchasing power won't go away. Chelsea are hamstrung this year and Utd are in the doldrums but 18 moths ago this City side was the greatest of all time, until now.

FF can go fcuk itself this week.....yep, I'm having a horrible week.
The best thing about that forum is there's no BS team bias and if anyone starts it they get pulled into line very quickly without the mods even having to intervene.

How many of those sides all peaked simultaneously??
Maybe 1 or 2 at most. 3 of them were in European finals last year too. I think one of them gets to a european final this year too.

It's not Liverpool's problem Arsenal & United have been in poor, likely you can blame the setup of the club being totally out of date when their long term managers left. Spurs didn't back Poch & now have someone in charge who challenged their record signing, N'dombele to play through pain & his injury somehow got worse.
City the previous 2 seasons are easily their 2 best seasons in the clubs history at least.

The fact that Liverpool have 61 pts as opposed to be leading the league on something like 48 points makes a big difference.

Not just the games either really. That BS is all year round. Usually the people who are supposedly 'pissed off' by it from both sides are the ones who are happily knee deep in it.

Im far from a liverpool fan but that's doing them something of a disservice, you can only beat what's in front of you and they continue to do that. United had it fairly cushy until wenger came in and then the sugar daddy era that began with Roman, doesn't make any of the title wins any less impressive imo. The league has money in it now than ever and Klopp has spent relatively modestly but in the main has spent well. More than that though there has been consistent evolution and improvement. He realised the high energy press game wasnt possible for a full season so adapted it to suit the demands of the league. They have done better each year than the previous one and will likely win the league at a minimum this year and do so at a canter and if they continue as they have started they will do it with a record points total. You (not you specifically) can only tip ones hat to what Klopp has built.

There was a pic during the week of the top 5 league tables combined showing the positions relative to points acquired, and the prem had most of the top 6 ..pool far ahead of everyone simply because they are doing something no team has ever done..the rest are doing ok, nothing special . Most leagues have been won with 80-90 points ..

If it were city blowing away the competition the conversation would not be about how crap the league is,it would be about how great city are..

Give the reds the credit they deserve for almost 2 seasons of intense consistency in the league.

Burnley 2-1 up. Is everyone conspiring to ensure Liverpool have the title won by St Patrick's Day? Watch United score an og and have a man sent off in the first ten minutes later on...

Without Ndidi over the last while Leicester look like an average mid table club they are starting to look like a one man team. Very lucky they built up a good points total before he got injured.

No, but if they had maintained something close to their early season form they might have delayed the inevitable a bit longer...

Well done Burnley. Nick Pope is a quality goalkeeper. Great save near the end plus the penalty save. Man of the match.

Man City are favourites for the European Cup
Spurs reached the final last May.
Both Spurs and Chelsea are also through to the knockout stages of the CL

    You’re grossly exaggerating.

City have never even been to a Champions League final so being favourites means about as much as England being favourites for the Euros. It's par for the course at this stage.

How well have Spurs and Chelsea done in the CL this campaign do you reckon?

You've deliberately avoided the point as we both know. How highly would you rate the rest of the top 6 sides compared to teams of yesteryear? Do you accept that part of true sporting greatness involves defeating elite competition?

He's been doing this all season to play down how well Liverpool have been so far.

The main claim is that the French league is more competitive than the EPL

No, the claim was that this season's was the least competitive of the top 5 leagues, which was said well before the gap was as wide as it is today. Do you dispute it?

And I've not played down how well they've done. No opposition fan has praised Liverpool's overall direction since 2018 more than me.

Comments like yours are simply designed to shut down debate which I made reference to earlier. Some can't judge these things dispassionately.

Ole confirmed in the post match interview it's a stress fracture for Rashford. 6 weeks before he's back and then will need time to build up fitness after that.

Edit: Evra also says he's not working with the board right now when asked why United haven't signed another striker. Maybe he's in for the DOF role?

You'd wonder when he said the day after the cup game, he wasn't sure, it was 50/50, he'll play through the pain, was he that desperate to get him on against us?
I actually thought it was mind games because him playing would have given them a lift but the way it turned out probably deflated them
