Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

That's pretty dreadful. It's not like he smashed it at Pickford.
That should be a 100/100 save unless it's right in the corner or it comes through some bodies and the keeper's unsighted.

    Richi makes it 2-1

If only that joke got old.

Yeah it's pretty old alright, I believe it goes back to the late Cretaceous period, about 85 million to 65 million years ago, toward the end of the Mesozoic Era.

That's the time the T-Rex roamed the earth and when Pickford first started playing in goal.

Palace who started the season quite well are in fact appalling, in a way that Benteke strike illustrated their plight, first shot of the game, scored due to a terrible error and by a player who hadn't scored for most of a year.

    Calvert-Lewin seals it for Everton

DCL makes it 3-1, a scoreline that hardly reflects the football tone of the match.

Pep hasn't seemed right since their loss at anfield earlier in the season. He seems like a man on the edge and under huge pressure.

I reckon if City were to go out to Madrid in the champions league he could end up leaving early.

He doesn't seem like a man with the hunger of overseeing a rebuild.

Agreed. Looking very weak at the moment. He’s only another couple of bad results from breaking entirely imo.

Three wins and two draws in the last five for Everton. Fair play, very nice run.

    Rough run now for Everton

Would like to think we get 4 from Arsenal and United.

Depends what Chelsea show up tbh. Liverpool a write-off. Draw at best

Carlo Ancelotti manager of Everton, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer manager of Man Utd just does not feel right at all. Man Utd are in serious trouble next season if Ole is still manger no matter how much money they spend. Pep, Klopp, Ancelotti, Jose, Rodgers and Nuno are all better managers with great ownership backing their experienced managers. Ole sticks out like a sore thumb.

Pep, Klopp, Ancelotti, Jose, Rodgers and Nuno are all better managers.

There's probably another 10 managers on top of those six in the PL who are better managers than Ole at least.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,424 ✭✭✭✭The_Kew_Tour

Would any team in top flight take Ole?

    Hell even Championship?

Answer in most cases is no

Pleased things are going well for Ancelotti. Tough run of fixtures on the way, though.

Ancelotti is a difficult person to dislike. Fantastic manager and still comes across as a decent person

would make sense to have game tomorow.

But im not sure it is possible because police need more notice.

Hopefully they play next week and Declan Rice hasn’t got free cancellation on his holiday :)

They are not allowed arrange the game during PL winter break, or so we are told, so when will be arranged for? City already have a rearranged game because of League Cup final, and possibly another if they beat Sheff Wednesday in their FA cup game. Not many chances left if they also progress in the CL so we may have to see a 2 games in 2 days type scenario again.

All a fix for Liverpool to win the league

Were BT due to be broadcasting all the 'winter break' games?

They are all due to be televised. Not sure whether or not Sky have the rights to broadcast some of them.

More likely now a fix for Leicester to finish ahead of City.

Will definitely have to be an asterisk put beside this title win!

So Manchester is too dangerous but Sheffield is good enough for the Yorkshire folk....hmmm.

Callum Wilson opens scoring for Bournemouth.

Sheff Utd equalise. Difference between challenge on the keeper there and VVD on De Gea? None, and goal was rightly awarded here.

There wasn't even a challenge on Bournemouth keeper here in fairness. Bournemouth keeper advanced out. Whatever about the VVD incident, almost nothing similar at all.

    Sickener for Bournemouth there

Sheff Utd in with as good a shout as anyone for 4th now. No sign of them falling away.

Chelsea are averaging about 1.2 PPG over the last 10 games, Sheffield United 1.7

Sums up the lack of quality in the Premier League this season. They're nothing special, really. They're a classic case of a team greater than the sum of its parts. Realistically, they should be nowhere near the likes of Arsenal, Spurs, Chelsea, or United given the disparity in resources. Shows how desperate those sides have been, compared to the teams of even a few years back.

Most of them have three points less than normal, six if they've played Liverpool twice.

No, both BT and Sky were to have half each with BT 3 this weekend and Sky 1 and Sky having 4 next weekend and BT having 2

Sums up the standard of debate around here these days. No attempt to engage with the point made. Just thanks-twerking and discussion-stiflling.

The reality is Sheffield United would be nowhere near Conte's Chelsea, prime Poch's Spurs, the United of 17-18, or even the Arsenal of Wenger's era. The decline of those sides has allowed a well-drilled, but lacking in quality side to make ground.

It reminds me of the season Burnley got 7th, but in this case the teams above have fallen back and allowed space to make further gains.

A simple gauge to measure this would be to ask fans of the top 6 which players they would like to have from Sheffield United. I doubt they'd want a single player. No surprise because they are not where they are because of stellar talent, but rather the sum of their parts.

Of course there will be no attempt to engage with any of the above because that's not what this thread is for these days.

Picking teams at their peak to prove a point is a bit like saying ''Well Liverpool wouldn't win the league if City were at their peak, and if Ferguson never left and if Prime Arsenal were still around, oh and if Mourinho had his prime Chelsea.

It's a pointless argument and one that you bring up every week. You can only beat what's in front of you.

Edit: To add to this I think it was 2-3 years ago the top 6 had battered the bottom 3(or 5) never dropping a point against them. How is that competitive? Last season 2 teams battered everyone. Was it competitive then?

What are you basing competitive on? The title challenge?

Shows you how poor the league was for a long time when Utd were winning year after year. Chelsea, Liverpool, City and the rest were far short of where they are now.

    Am I doing it right?

Powerhouses like Swindon, Barnsley, Oldham, Blackpool, Hull, Middlesbrough, Ipswich etc clearly far better sides than what’s around now.
