Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

If Vardy manages to be top scorer he will win the poty, if not then it should be between KDB, VVD, Mane and Salah.

Vardy hasn't scored since the City game on the 21st of December. He's going through a dry spell when most of the voting will take place.

Vardy hasn't scored since before Christmas, has he?

He had a great spell before that to be fair but I wouldn't put him in the conversation - for me, it has to be Henderson, KDB or Mané.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jordan Henderson should also be considered this season, both English as well which would help.

This is the first season Sterling hasn't been eligible for Young Player of the Year. Thought it was mad that he won last year - in his 8th Premier League season!

Mane is probably out of it now as well after missing two weeks unless he scores a few in the next two or three games.

It's just the way the voting always seems to go. You've to be bang in form from January to March and everything before that is usually forgotten.

The media have picked Henderson, he's been brilliant and I wouldn't say he doesn't deserve it but VVD is the kingmaker of that team. Mane has been excellent also.

Van Dijk's performances have become the norm now so that's probably why he doesn't stand out.

    YPOTY has to be Trent.

This is why I didn't not see Henderson winning it. VVD, Mane and Salah are in the same team. So English player would be Vardy, if not English the KDB along with the three mentioned above are the contenders.
    TAA certain to get ypoty.

Salah no chance he's a contender, its VVD, Mane or Henderson that's it.

It's mad like. Salah has scored more than Mane but because he was so good in his first season people just don't think he's doing as well as other players now.

Take all the english sentimentality and most improved player out of it and its VVD again by a good distance. His level of consistency and performances are ridiculous.

    Not all about stats.

Mane is a better player than Salah.

I think Salah's 'winning goals' stat is impressive and this is where a player like Vardy or Ings falls down. Yes they scored a good few, but very few of them were winning efforts.

Most winning goals scored this season so far:

    Salah - 7
    Firmino - 6
    Rashford - 5
Wood, Jesus, Kane, Jimenez, Abraham, Mane, Richarlison - 4

    Vardy & Ings - 2

I was actually going to mention that stat. Shows that he's won us points plenty of times this season, even more than Mane.
There's usually two players marking Salah as well so it shifts the defensive line over more which in turn gives Mane more space on his side to exploit. We see this loads with Salah laying the ball back to TAA who then switches the wings and Mane/Robertson can drive into that space.

He's very frustrating to watch, he works hard, scores goals but his general attacking playing isn't as good as Mane.

She my post above to 8-10. He's double marked a lot more than Mane so isn't given as much space but this then helps the team.

Edit: look at the amount of times in a game where Salah receives the ball when he's standing still, he seems to be given the ball with his back to goal a lot more often this season. Mane on the other hand seems to be played in behind the opposition a lot more often.

Yep... till i saw that list i hadnt really noticed that Sheffield Utd is actually battling for a CL spot.

Yeah I agree with this. VVD barely didn't win the Ballon d'Or last year and was POTY. There's no way his level has dropped off, if anything he's been much better and scored as many goals this season already as in the whole of last season (4), of which 2 were game-winners (0 last season).

Liverpool conceded 22 goals last season, currently on 15 conceded this season with 12 games left so it's similar. Less clean sheets for him alright but since Alisson and Gomez came back it's been ridiculous. Only 1 goal conceded since December 4th in the league.

Games & Goals conceded, last 11 games in the league:

    Bournemouth - 0
    Watford - 0
    Leicester - 0
    Wolves - 0
    Sheffield United - 0
    Tottenham - 0
    Man United - 0
    Wolves - 1
    West Ham - 0
    Southampton - 0
    Norwich - 0

    Elite stuff.

I would say Mane and Salah are pretty even talent wise and consistency wise and selfishness wise and are good mirrors of each other on either wing. I do think neither would be as productive if they didn't have Firmino doing so much graft for them while he add his Brazilian flair to the mix.

As someone pointed out to me when lauding his goal tally, he bagged 5 goals against Newcastle and Soton who were down to 10 men. Take those out and his tally is perfectly decent at 12 (due to points won by those goals) but that's all.

I think its pretty obvious all 3 compliment each other
If any of them where to leave i reckon they would be worse than they are at Liverpool ,
Both fantastic players and glad to have them both ,

Salah gets a bit of slack because his first season he was hitting Messi like numbers , He is still bloody brilliant

It's very useful, and if your club was the one at the top, I guarantee that you wouldn't be complaining about it. Please stop assuming what the users of this forum do or do not want.

It's not as if citytillidie just posts this stuff for Liverpool reasons, he's been doing it and fixture lists for years. Much more of a contribution than what you just posted.

I see Evra is taking plaudits for Brandon Williams saying he convinced Ole to play him

Sounds a but undermining former player who doesn't have a roll In the club convincing you to start someone ,

Perhaps best to update at the start of the new PL thread going forward.

Great post. Good to see you take ownership of it.

You could even do a CL one as well in that thread?

Something that never really spoken about is how Salah's numbers have lowered as Trent form has risen , Infact he hasn't assisted Salah this season,

He rarely goes beyond Salah, On the other Mane and Robbo play far more one twos and Robbo gets beyond Mane and it varies there attack more ,

Trent tends to stayed 5 or 10 yards behind Salah most of the time to get balls back to whip in for Mane and Bobby ,its becoming a bit predictable on that side and you'll notice Salah isn't getting into the box as much as Mane as a direct repercussion of what Trent is doing ,

Trent really has 3 go to balls , long to Mo between him and the side line , switch to Robbo and whipping it into the box, Hes young and possible all the hype over Christmas period has him looking for every ball to be killer pass, he needs to get back to short quick passing and taking the killer pass when play opens up instead of looking for it all the time ,

Just something iv noticed lately ,

Mad to think it'll be 8 years since United were PL winners now after this year. I knew they'd struggle without Ferguson but I never thought it'd get to this level.

Fair play to Brinty for highlighting it.

And all indications are that it will be at least 10 years, maybe even 20+ depending on how ignominiously the Glazer sh1tshow falls apart.

Sure its not even correct from the 2013-14 season to the 2016-17 season correction below

    2015-16 - Leicester
    2014-15 - Chelsea

Yea the amount of balls Salah has to chase at times is unfair.
CB can just read it & go over to cover.

Actually just on that Ole said in an interview after the game that the ball last night made the game difficult. Shows how the players can actually get used to one type over another.
