    1-0 Norwich. Super finish.

They should have been 1-0 up already , they butchered a 5 or 6 on 3 a few mins before it.

A beauty of a goal by Norwich.

I keep just assuming they'll be fine but if they lose tonight and Man United beat Everton on Sunday, it's just six pointes from 3rd to 5th with 10 games to play.

Leicester are on a poor run - roughly a point a game since mid-December.

Some tough ones in there - Liverpool, City x2, Wolves - but defeats against Burnley and Southampton are particularly bad results.

They've missed Ndidi big time but there's been 5 or 6 players whose form has collapsed too - Vardy hasn't scored since Christmas, Maddison and Tielemans aren't doing well, Chilwell and Soyuncu look poor lately too.

They play Villa, Watford, Brighton, Palace and Bournemouth in their next 7 games. They also have Everton, Arsenal, Man United, Sheffield United and Spurs between now and the end of the season... That first group of games could be absolutely crucial because if the momentum keeps shifting away from them and toward the likes of Everton, Arsenal, United and Spurs then those games suddenly become 6 pointers.

It'll be interesting - barring an absolute collapse between now and May, you'd have to say they've done better than expected this season but that's a different kind of challenge and it'll be interesting to see how Rodgers preps them for it.

If Ndidi stays fit and one or two of the attackers rediscover their form, I'd give them the edge. But it'll be close.

Leicester can now only get a maximum of 80pts

A win tomorrow and Liverpool can only be caught by City

    (and/or coronavirus)

Just 1 win in their last 5 league games.
    And Vardy's form has disappeared.

If some of the traditional "Big 6" clubs, like United and Spurs, had some proper consistency, Leicester would be out of the Top 4 already.

Leicester 12 points in 12 games.

    Shoudl still make top 4.
But they need plenty of signings if they are to sustain as a top 4 club.

Typical Rodgers side, take out the main goal threat and they have no plan B

Far cry from hammering Southampton 9-0 now.

And if I remember rightly they played the highlights of that hammering before their home game against southampton while Southampton were warming up and lost that match 1-2

On Leicester - after about 10-12 games they had a conversion rate of about 50% (shots/goals) it was ludicrously high and logically unstainable. And so it came to pass

Was delighted Southampton won that 2nd game, mainly for that reason.

The likes of him, Vardy & Chilwell's form falling off a cliff is a large part of the reason their season has hit the skids since Christmas. Ndidi when he was fit hid a lot of their defensive faults too.
I think they had quietly convinced themselves without European football they could still be in the title race in the new year but the loss to City & absolute pasting at home to Liverpool came as a shock to some of them.

Yeah, that's implied too. Telegraph has it too, but paywall blocks off most of the article.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,746 ✭✭✭BullBlackNova

All the Telegraph piece says is that the PL doesn't have an existing protocol to handle a pandemic outbreak so it's unclear what would happen.

Of course, "UNCLEAR HOW VIRUS EFFECTS FOOTBALL" doesn't generate the clicks so...

Italy has, by far, the worst outbreak in Europe at present and they've only put restrictions in place in the North. Games still going ahead behind closed doors, games proceeding as normal in the south.

If the entire UK was badly hit, of course football (like everything else) would be affected but you'd imagine it would have to be a large scale outbreak for that.

Are they basing it on points needed to be relegated?

I prefer people suggesting it's the worst ever rather than hoping for a viral pandemic or global thermonuclear war.
This potential extinction level event is adding some spice to the title race I suppose.

One of the most pointless things I've ever seen

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 40,061 ✭✭✭✭Harry Palmr

Shows how bad Wolves are in practically every first half, amazingly so. It defies normal stats analysis really.

Average minute for first goal conceded 26th
Average minute for first goal scored 52nd

5% of all goals scored up to 15th minute
34% of all goals scored from 75th minute.

Chilwell is a poor player, a very average fullback.

The only people saying it's a high standard season are Liverpool fans because they are top of the pile of rubbish.

Baseless, blanket statements go both ways ;)

But also if those teams are ****e it hurts the quality of the league. You want as many of the big clubs entering their peak or close to it as you can to see the best league or do you think something else?

Pool are winning the league, enjoy it. Ye don't have to be so defensive over everything.

There's definitely an argument to be had though that the clubs down the league have lost something. Perhaps it's due to trying to play a better style of football and in turn a lot of them have lost their doggedness and some sh1thouse qualities.

Is that a bad thing? Not sure. But if City post 100, 98 and Liverpool put up 97 and 100+ then you do kinda have to look at everyone else and wonder what they are doing. Just like we used to look at Real and Barca in La Liga but at least there it was obviously the huge financial gap.

Liverpool and City are/were obviously of a very high quality but go below that and that quality drops off a cliff quickly.

Potentially worst Man Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea teams of the PL era. Leicester have won something like 6 games in 15 and are still fairly comfortable in 3rd. And yes it was a ****e league quality wise the year they won it as well before that gets asked.

The other big clubs have some serious issues to sort out. Fair play to Liverpool getting their house in order though and they are rightfully going to win it because they have been far and away the most consistent team.

Hopefully there's a decent title race next season but I can't see United, Chelsea or Arsenal being involved either way, way too much ground to make up at present. But again not Liverpool's fault, can only beat what's put in front of you.

  • I find it quite funny that liverpool fans spend so much time telling us how poor Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea are etc

Then get triggered as **** every time someone says the league is of a poor standard

    The irony is delicious

Suck it up and enjoy the football. It's a breath of fresh air someone else winning it.

I wonder, if things did start to look bad would the Prem decide to accelerate the league programme? A match day every three days and the FA Cup abandoned.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,409 ✭✭✭✭gimli2112

The only teams that would support that are us and Norwich. Leicester and Chelsea would want it to end now and everyone else null and void it.

Strip it all back and it's just jealously. Used to winning a lot 10/20 years ago, and finding it hard to adjust. Been there, worn the t-shirt.

Has to be the opposite, push everything out a couple of months.

If anything should be abandoned it’s Euro 2020

tbh when Utd won their first one I didn't really care, I'd had time to come to terms with it, much like our rivals have now. If you check out the Utd thread recently all they talk about is Utd. It's like they don't care about us anymore :(

Not direct rivals anymore, well currently anyway. Different European competitions and different goals in the league.

That’s interesting. Rugby seems to have much more foresight than Football. They Said the same in the World Cup for games that might be weather affected - it was **** but at least everyone one where they stood. Football authorities need to stop sitting on their hands and make some decisions on what will happem in various scenarios that this is going to throw up.

Everyone should just have their ppg for the season applied to the rest of their fixtures and call it a day. :)
