New year, new formation, and actually leading a game. Great time start a thread....

Actually VAR says no, we've to go back to old thread

New defensive formation is drawing Burnley out a bit to attack us, and actually giving Grealish especially space to flourish in

    What a goal Grealish!!!!!

Great finish and nice build up play for it

    Grealish you beauty!

Second he got it, you just knew he would go for that.

    2-0

    What's going on!

Honestly, we are blessed to be watching this lad play football every week.

I was typing as it went in.

Villa are doing to Burnley what Watford did to us.

Compact defense, no space around our box but loads of space in Burnley half to exploit. Grealish getting space, Wesley and Trez moving all over the place to create options. Luiz getting up to help quickly.

Like Villa against Watford, Burnley not cute enough on ball the break down massed defence

I think this is now the most goals grealish has scored in a season.

He is the second best player i have ever seen play for Villa (God being the best). He is world class. Truly a world class player.

Absolutely gifted to see him wear the shirt.

He is world class and we are so lucky to have him.

Given what more goes into being an outstanding attacking player I think he is the best I’ve ever seen.

He'd be gone years ago if he didn't love Villa.
He could play for any team in the league. But I'm not going to tell him.

We are playing well and the formation change has worked very well. Burnley were pretty poor it has to be said also.

Fair play to Wes, he played well and deserves that goal.

Only ourselves can cause them to come back into this game from here.

Neil Taylor is a huge weakness and i still fear for us in the second half with that retarded muppet playing at left back.

I read the best players of the season team so far in another thread, almost nobody had Jack in, many went for Maddison instead.

If only Jack had quality around him, he'd be even better.

If Villa don't throw this away we will be outside the bottom three after this set of games. Bournemouth & West Ham play each other so can't both win.

    We are biast but....

If I was Southgate I would be picking Grealish ahead of Maddison every time atm

Hands up, I wasn't sure a few years ago if he would live up to what people were saying of him or if it was all hype. I was wrong, he is that good!

The difference in the team, change of formation,we are showing pride, passion and hunger..first to every ball
    Long may it continue

Apart from W.Ham having a new (old) manager who might get them a bounce this might actually be unfortunate though as now they can't both lose either :pac:

A lot of that is down to the Irish stuff. Even the people that aren’t wildly biased against him are probably unconsciously a little bit. Other than De Bruyne, Vardy and Mane I can’t think of a clear and obvious better attacking performer in the league this season so far.

BBC live thread has an interesting stat there that Burnley have only had 9 shots on target in all of December and are sinking quickly in the table. If we hold on here, we're only 3 points behind them

The 2 Brazilians have actually looked Brazilian today.

Ah Douglas, free in box with time and tamely hits it at keeper

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,509 ✭✭✭Patser

Lucky there, and Burnley in with early contender for miss of the decade, as 2 of them tackle each other with an open goal and put it wide

We’ve really lost our way here in the 2nd half

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,518 ✭✭✭matrim

    Need to change something soon.

    Some terrible shooting from Burnley.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,509 ✭✭✭Patser

Living of Burnley's poor finishing here, lost the control we had 1st half. Need a change somewhere

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,328 ✭✭✭Esse85

Ball retention 2nd half is horrendous.

We will collapse and lose the game if we concede even one goal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,518 ✭✭✭matrim

Wesley could be off here. Looks like a twisted knee

It’s worrying how often this happens when we have a good first half. The opposition changes up and we’re lost.
