Would like to see us try play the ball behind the newcastle defence for watkins to run into. He's losing the strength battle but could win if we went for pace

I know there's serious love on here for Watkins, but he's so poor at holding up the ball, it bounces off him way too much.

He's very average on the ball, not good technically at all.

Holding up the ball is not one of his strengths but ideally he wouldn't have to be doing that. Too many high balls into him.

We should be playing him in but without Jack he has no partner to play off.

The most damning criticism of that is that we’ve made Newcastle look like an actual football team.

I’d say the most depressing thing about it is probably the fact that most of us had bought into the idea that we’d become more than just a 1man team going forward.

Not one player outside the back 5 has stepped up in Jack’s absence. McGinn works hard and his energy is important but him getting the ball is where attacks go to die.

We’ve become a chore to watch again.

    Its just two awful teams.

Watkins has been dire. Why hasn't he tried to drift over the right side away from Lacalles? He's been out muscled by him. Mix it up.

McGinn has run a lot but his quality on the ball has been poor again.

    Our two wingers are woeful.

It goes wide, El Ghazi has a powder puff shot or we play 3 or 4 very slow passes and then a dire cross.

Mings needs to get his head together and just do the basics because has rattled.

Konsa has been our best player again.

This is utterly appalling to watch. We look like a Steve Bruce team again.

Not quite getting the McGinn hate this match, he's probably the one trying the most out there. We're trying - as usual - to play ball around defence to draw in their players, then pick out Watkins, who's supposed to hold up ball and feed in runners. McGinn is only one trying to get up to him. El Ghazi is hugging left line too much and is not in a position to help, Ramsey isn't gettting forward quick enough, Trez is but is missing Cash's overlaps (Targett is also doing his best on left, but hard to overlap with El Ghazi standing on line)

I'd like to see Nakamba for Ramsey around 60 minute with Luiz being told to get forward and join attack. Barkley maybe for last 10 for Trez or El Ghazi

McGinn is never lacking for effort, but as a well paid professional football, there’s no way he can be this bad every time the ball gets near him.

Not a whole pile of room to run in behind. NUFC defend deep.

If Barkley comes on there's is absolutely no point having him play as a quarter back like he did against Sheff Utd, receiving the ball from our CBs with his back to goal.

I really hope we move on Trez and AEG in the summer. Both are so poor for different reasons.

lacking creativity..ramsey ineffective, traore going off killed the only creativity we had..Bruce needs a win tonight and im afraid they might sneak a goal if we dont come up with something other than brucie hoof ball

Bringing on Barkley is the only way this game can become more of a depressing game for me.

Get Sanson in there. He was good in the first half last week and we have no control in midfield here.

He hasn't been that bad, he's driven forward a few times, and gotten into the box - but is being killed by lack of options. Newcastle are packing the area around box, Watkins is being man marked out of it. El Ghazi as I keep complaining is staying too wide to help, Ramsey is missing, Luiz too far back, so instead McGinn often ends up passing it to Trez (who is also putting in a shift) but without Cash, Trez is now isolated and tries too much.

If Ramsey was doing what McGinn was, and El Ghazi what Trez was, with Targett out there we'd tear their right side apart, instead that wing is offering nothing

Konsa has been our best attacking option in last few games......and defensive option

Good ball in to be fair. Was waiting fo rEl Ghazi to blast it over the bar.

Sanson on for Ramsey, Smith in tactical change before 60 minutes shock

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,246 ✭✭✭Esse85

Watkins has been horrendous so far, absolutely pathetic.

Yes , but we have nobody else

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,093 ✭✭✭Patser

Newcastle are sensing they can get something here, and they've a big need of points so are pushing up more - you can spot that Shelvey's big bald head is getting into our half.

That's giving us space to counter into....if they could just pass!!!!!!

    As clinical as Joelington.

    3 goals in 60 games.

Best effort of the match there by Targett, just as well Martinez saved the OG

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,093 ✭✭✭Patser

Barkley for Trez, winder where he'll play - are we sacrificing Right wing altogether

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 838 ✭✭✭rebelomar

    Is Barkley drunk?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,882 ✭✭✭sc86

Like he's got weights around his ankles.
    Completely stuck in the mud.
His body language already is awful.

    Barkley looking very frustrated already

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,093 ✭✭✭Patser

Barkley seems to think he's playing against 7 year olds and is always surprised when he gets caught and tackled

Mings likely to get sent off here. He's all over the place

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,352 ✭✭✭OneColdHand

Joelinton taking the pi$$ out of Mings.

Mings just keeps diving in, every time, even on the half way line.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,882 ✭✭✭sc86

Sub barkley off please , put heaton on instead

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,246 ✭✭✭Esse85

We'd be better off hooking Barkley now and finishing with 10 men.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,093 ✭✭✭Patser

He hit a great pass to Watkins earlier - but the whole front line just isn't working.

Amazed that Newcastle are getting so much space. Sanson and Barkley too far forward

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,093 ✭✭✭Patser

    Annnnnd Konsa saves Mings again....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,093 ✭✭✭Patser

    Awful.

We had at least 2 great breakway chances to wrap that up.

Konsa man of match, but without Grealish we've no spark

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,843 ✭✭✭Panrich

ElGhazi won possession on the edge of our box and tried a fancy flick pass giving the ball away in the process. That led to the equaliser a few seconds later.

Watkins and Barkely should be shot! Watkins in particular cost us tonight. What was he doing when Carroll tackled him. No awareness.

    Game management was non existent.

McGinn's "attempt" to stop the cross was a disgrace.

Mings was a shambles all through the game.

So many lads need to look in the mirror after that performance. Honestly...its not good enough.

Smith needs to buck up his ideas too.
