Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I have to admit that i am getting close to the point where i will be disappointed if we miss out on CL. I'm not there yet, as we are still relatively early in the season. There is still time for us to have a dip, or for the likes of Newcastle or Spurs to make a push.

However, as we approach the end of the year, its pretty clear that we not just in good form. This is actually our ability level. We have consistently been at this level for a full year. We are the second best team for the calendar year. What I'm getting at is there is reason to believe that we can keep this level of performance up.

As a Villa fan, I’m definitely used to being scared. Just not for this reason.

Will Emery bring in Cash or Lenglet to replace Torres tomorrow?

Carlos is right footed but has played LCB at previous clubs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,352 ✭✭✭OneColdHand

I think that i would rather see Cash come in and Carlos at LCB. But in Unai I trust!

From some of Emery's interviews today it seems like Lenglet might be the one to come in. Emery seems to want to keep him in January amid interest from elsewhere so playing him might make sense.

I'd rather Cash come in and have Konsa back in the middle.

We are short alot of players tomorrow night for a change.

Looks like shef utd are in the same boat

    Tonight...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 640 ✭✭✭DBIreland

Both Lenglet and Cash start! As do Bailey and Diaby, is that the first time they both started?

Archer up front for Sheffield, hopefully he doesn't come back to hurt us.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,352 ✭✭✭OneColdHand

Sheffield Utd just trying to contain, and get the draw. We are going to have to be patient here. And make sure we don't make any mistakes.

All the ball and no cutting edge, sheff utd to many bodies in the box, cut backs not working either, frustrating as, might take a cracker from luiz or mcginn to break the deadlock, bailey and diaby trying but need more. Watkins starved of possession but did have a decent chance but maybe should have had a pen. Cash prone to mistakes in possession and has given away two poor balls, Ramsey poor also.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,111 ✭✭✭✭listermint

    Balls. Was a foul though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,444 ✭✭✭basillarkin

More of a foul on Watkins in the first half imo, it's harsh

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,093 ✭✭✭Patser

If that's a foul on keeper, then it's a penalty for foul on Ramsey at exact same time, because defender has hands all over him

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,038 ✭✭✭circadian

Nearly had the shirt off JJ.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,882 ✭✭✭sc86

This is payback for the ghost goal that kept us up

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,111 ✭✭✭✭listermint

Fairly confident that was an actual handball. Not this high chest nonsense.

  • Registered Users Posts: 541 ✭✭✭crustyjuggler

Poor VAR decision disallowing the goal . Faze was over .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,500 ✭✭✭✭fullstop

He practically clubbed it away with his arm ffs.

Yep you move your arm towards the ball like that it's not a case of hitting you high on the arm

    The officials are clueless

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,111 ✭✭✭✭listermint

    Bollix stuff that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,444 ✭✭✭basillarkin

course it is, still.think.he is better than duran

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,093 ✭✭✭Patser

Absolutely Archer off the bench, much more exciting than Duran

    Unlucky Moreno

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,882 ✭✭✭sc86

    You couldnt make this up

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,093 ✭✭✭Patser

Disallowed goal really knocked stuffing out of team.

Suddenly all energy was gone, Diaby and Bailey off took away our speed

Villa getting robbed here, no way should their goal have been disallowed and they should have had a penalty.

They didn’t want little oul Villa top of the league.

Weeellllllll, better than nothing I suppose, and possibly fair, because for all our possession we offered little..

    Still that disallowed goal...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,038 ✭✭✭circadian

Terrible refereeing but fair play on getting one back so late on.

Whoever thought paying 18 million for duran and selling archer was good idea should prob be asked to explain what he saw.

Archer always looked like he had something

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,843 ✭✭✭Panrich

Well a missed opportunity there but it won't feel as bad to come back very late to at least get the point. If we had been one up for 98 minutes and got sucker-punched at the death, it would have been a lot harder to take.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,111 ✭✭✭✭listermint

Chillax. Archers got 3 goals.. Duran has 2 in less games played.

I think archer got a reasonable shake at villa and wasn't necessarily showing results.

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 10,797 Mod ✭✭✭✭artanevilla

Archer is/was not good enough for Aston Villa.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,444 ✭✭✭basillarkin

Ya in a team at the bottom of the league that had maybe 35% max per game. He wasn't waiting around at VP, wasn't happy with playing time. Looked better than Duran for me

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,882 ✭✭✭sc86

Archer looks a natural goalscorer but is playing in a team at bottom of league.

Duran looks a headless chicken that comes on and gives away fouls or gets booked playing for a team 3rd in league.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,030 ✭✭✭pavb2

Similar game to Brentford when they went one up, we needed a lot of patience to break them down Moreno almost scored an identical goal tonight.

Think the ref should have given the Bailey goal and seen as he didn't, he should definitely have given given the handball.

Thought we should have been running with the ball in the box more to draw a penalty. The passing was crisp but was going nowhere.

We missed Pau real bad today.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,843 ✭✭✭Panrich

I think we've outgrown Matty Cash at this stage. His first touch is usually an abomination and he turns back too often instead of pushing on towards the byline. I also thought that although we missed Pau tonight, it was easy to see why Lenglet was brought in. Much more comfortable in possession than Carlos.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,557 ✭✭✭✭CSF

Still angry this morning. Clearly missed some players in the lineup, but still, did more than enough to win, barring some horrendous officiating.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,093 ✭✭✭Patser

Since they are both still young, I won't dismiss Duran yet but since Watkins is pretty much only other striker, letting Archer go seems very poor business. I'd much rather have had Duran and Archer on beach last night, giving different options, and back up in case Watkins gets hurt

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,557 ✭✭✭✭CSF

Duran is better than Archer and it’s not close

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,444 ✭✭✭basillarkin

    Is he though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,111 ✭✭✭✭listermint

Good Luton result for us today. And the Westham result hopefully depresses the United dressing room further.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,352 ✭✭✭OneColdHand

Shaw booked last minute and will now miss the game versus us (i think)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,111 ✭✭✭✭listermint

Think it's only 4 now in epl 1 in champions league doesn't count

Ah! Right. Saw he was on 4 and thought it was a PL total.
