The French Ambassador is grateful as there was a clash of dates in his diary.
He is now free to attend the Klaus Barbie "Butcher of Lyon" commemoration

Sad thing is a lot of people will have forgotten this by the time of the election. You have to wonder at this stage how far FF/FG have to go to be consigned to the dustbins where they belong.

Ferriter on Six one, claiming the government tried to use the group he is a member of as cover. Even when wrong FG seeks to blame the blameless for their own behaviour.

I am hoping Wilson pins him on that and doesn't let him waffle it away.

Someone must have reminded Lord Vradkar that there’s an election soon.

No one expects the DUP to attend commemorations for the PIRA. South Armagh does not commemorate the Glenane gang.

I sincerely hope no sane unionist would be a supporter of state organized terrorists.

The only mask that has slipped is on FG.

When in 2098, the centenary of the GFA will be remembered I hazzard to think that both sides should remember all that lost their lives in the conflict.
It is of course too soon and too raw to be doing that today.

It is clear though, we want a UI on our terms only and other people that do not fit the Irish Revolutionary or Republican narrative can get lost and be forgotten.
Anyone who thinks that this will not have any repercussions on a border poll or a UI are fools.

Flanagan still essentially demanding that people come round to his way of thinking - 'I'm determined that this event will go ahead in the future'.

    Arrogant fool.

This about as far from relevance to a UI as you can get but you continue if you like.

This has played so so bad for Fine Gael, the amount of times I have heard over the last few days them referred to them as the “Blue Shirts” again even among young people must be a worry for them.

John Bruton on Claire Byrne last night didn’t help FG either, I know that they were traditionally basically a home rule party even after independence but they haven’t seemed to realise that most Irish people are nationalists and very proud of their history.

FG see a cyclical recession incoming soon, and obviously want to exit Stage Left and leave cleaing up the mess to our FF saviours.

Well what is the other reason?

    Just like FF did.

Understandable consider the **** show that's left after a recession.

Just the sort of eventuality that the Northern unionists will use as propaganda.

To all the revisionists who sought to remove elements of history just because they found them distasteful, well done, great job.

After all, why should we look at the events of the time square in the eye, why should we teach our young people and our not so young about any aspect of our past that isn't the green tinted was of Pearse and Devs Ireland. Why shouldn't we ask anyone to reflect on the lessons of the past as we approach a critical time in the evolution of our nation.

This was never going to be a celebration, it was going to mark an important aspect and discuss it.

All the success in getting this event censored is to set back the cause of true Irish unity.

Incredible the anti Irish demeaning invective posted as it began to look like this was a disaster for FG.

The abuse starts again from the presumed place of superiority. You speculate and pontificate on the basis of your speculation.

There is no discussion on a UI. Didn’t Varadkar say it wasn’t happening.

There’s no need to forget those who fought against our freedom; who fought and raped and burned and murdered to terrorize a population and maintain British colonial rule. With British govt support. We remember them perfectly well. Just as the DUP will remember the PIRA and South Armagh the Glenane gang.

No one has any problem remembering the RIC/DMP. We remember them much better than revisionists hoped.

An academic conference on them for all their academic fans would be great.

A United Ireland doesn't require Unionists' consent.

Good man Charlie. Why not hold it on Easter Monday at Kilmainham Jail just before the election?
