    R1/Match 37

T’pau - China in Your Hands
This pairing makes me sad but I have to go with the one I nominated.

    R1/Match 38

Simple Minds - Don't You Forget About Me

    No contest here

    R1/Match 39

Cyndi Lauper - Time After Time

Randomly followed people to golden gate park a few years ago and Cyndi was playing. Loved this song before but loved it even more listening that day with my husband In our honeymoon.

    R1/Match 40

Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Relax
    My nomination

Ok, I'll take Relax for #40 (think that's the sixth vote?)

It's got a bit more oomph, the Richard Marx one is just a bit...meh.

Why is Pink Floyd's Another Brick In The Wall in the competition? It was released in 1979?

It was Christmas no 1 in 79 so I presume was knocking around the charts in early 1980

It was in the charts in the 80s.

    Rule 2 though
The song must have been released in the 80s, re releases are accepted.

    Declan is correct tbf

    Edit: Errr... oops... Sheridan

I'm not gonna stand for these offbeat shenanigans. I say it should be disqualified!

If it was re released in the 80s and charted again then it's grand though would be my interpretation. Dunno if it was or not though

Seeing as my name was mentioned by accident, I'll throw in my tuppence! Another Brick in the Wall was Number 1 at the end of 1979 and also at the beginning of 1980, and it was not re-released, so there could be some controversy here!

HEY! SHERIDAN! LEAVE THAT SONG ALONE.

(tbf it seems you may be correct, but couldn't resist! :p )

Just catching up and seeing what's been knocked out over the past two days while I've been AWOL, and super relieved that Edge of Seventeen and Sun Always Shines On TV both made it through their respective matches, as they're two of my Top 3 favourite '80s songs. Pretty sure Head Over Heels (the other song in my Top 3) is still in the mix too, unless I'm mis-remembering what went down on Friday evening, so despite some minor casualties while I was away, overall pretty ok with what has transpired so far.

At the expense of two of my favourites. :(

Tbf Edge of Seventeen is class, and I'd vote for it ahead of many other songs here so I can't begrudge it advancing. But while I do like The Sun Always Shines on TV, it really sucks to see Running Up That Hill booted out so early. :( (Not even a die-hard Kate Bush fan, just love that song in particular).

Another brick in the wall was released in the uk in nov 1979, Im not sure when it was released in the us. However, I dont think it reached no 1 in the us until March 1980. Imo, its a valid entry.
I did say at the beginning of this thread that some songs may border late 70s and early 90 but I also had the rule that the song must have been released in the 80s.
If someone can prove the song was released in the us before 1980, we may think of dq.

Whoo-hoo, looked in at just the right time

    R1/Match 41
Bon Jovi - Livin on a Prayer
I mean, maybe the best song in the world!

    R1/Match 42
    New Order - Blue Monday
Love this tune, and we only need the best Bon Jovi to proceed ;)

    R1/Match 43
    Toto - Africa
I love White Wedding but Africa is so iconic

    R1/Match 44
    The Bangles - Eternal Flame
Again, love both but this feels more 80s to me. Blondie feel more 70s (just feeling, not disputing dates or anything)
