If Trump hadn't had been such petty/childish on reneging on the Iran deal because it was Obama's , a lot of this crap could have been avoided . Yanks look at Iran and think they're evil cos they hate America but did they ever read a history book and wonder why ??? USA and the Brits helped overthrow the president of Iran in the 50s because he wanted to nationalise their oil supplies. They also helped Saddam hussien during the Iran - Iraq war , by giving them Intelligence on Iranian positions , which Saddam gassed , killing thousands of Iranians , the yanks also shot down an Iranian passenger plane killing 300 Iranian civilians. The Americans have a lot to answer for, for the state that middle East is in right now.

Part of me thinks they were right about the Nuclear Deal, it benefited Iran greatly in terms of financial growth and strength as a country. Having a very strong Iran (80 million people) not far from Israel (8 million) poses a very real danger to the Jewish state, even without Iran having nuclear weapons.

It's was only money Iranians had got frozen in the first place is what they got back. Israel are as bad , what do they expect Palestinians to do , they got kicked off their land , they've been living in glorified concentration camps for 70 years while Israel continues to illegally build on land against international law. And people wonder why Palestinians blow themselves up

Bin Laden was the most wanted criminal in US history, a guy the US had wanted dead since 1993 after his first attack on World Trade Center.

Massive difference between taking him out and one of the top ranking officials of a sovereign country, most powerful in the Middle East.

Obviously Obama informing everyone about Bin Laden plan would have tipped off Bin Laden himself which would make the whole thing pointless.

Well according to the US, both Trump & Obama advisors this guy was behind the deaths of hundreds of US soldiers in Iraq and planning further attacks. So not a massive difference really.

My point though was more to do with the operation to kill them was the same with attacks made in a 3rd party country without advance notice and there was no complaints at the time.

Good points, it is ridiculously moronic and infantile to brand an entire nation of 80 odd million as evil yet that view is prevalent in the US, I will say that view goes both ways in that it is also prevalent in the Middle East that the USA a deeply divided and diverse country is also evil, the world isn’t that simple, whatever about the man on the street we expect the leaders of the world to be above that moronic view however half of America elected an infantile president who has displayed time and time again that he acts like a child in the face of adversity.

Remember that this guy decided to run for president, not for the good of his country but because he was publicly mocked by obama at a white house dinner and like the flick of a switch said I’ll get that sob I’m going to run for president, he’s really that basic, it wouldn’t surprise me if Soleimani had mocked him at some stage and Trump held onto that.

Yes they got money back, but more importantly they got most of the sanctions lifted that allowed them to trade their oil. Western Companies had started to move there and the economy was beginning to open up before the new Sanctions kicked in.

Netanyahu knew this and that's what he was hopping mad at for years after the agreement was signed. The rest of the world leaders ignored him until Trump got elected.

The Shia dominated Iraqi government are effectively stuck between a rock and a hard place. Support Iran and kick the US our however, if they kick the US out then without doubt ISIS will be back big time.

Odd that only recently we've seen ordinary Iraqis protesting about their own government

Says who? Western media outlets? Have to take there information with a huge pinch of salt ad they have previous form for lying about such things.

Anyways, every single country on the planet has anti-government protests, you just have to look at the news on a daily basis to see that.

They could always call the Russians in... They made a complete show of the mighty US military when it came to wiping the floor with ISIS

Erdoğan doesn't like it when the world's media are focusing on events that don't directly involve Turkey. It's such a shame they made an absolute balls of that coup.

Putin is unrestrained by ethical considerations, a state Trump shares personally and is trying to arrive at militarily. You have a bigger point: Shia IRAN regards Putin as an ally as they both saved Syria’s Assad. Iran might welcome Russian involvement as another blow to US hegemony in the region.

With Russia already tied up in Syria and Ukraine, I'm not sure if they would want to get drawn into Iraq also. It could give the US a chance to sit back and watch Russia expend alot of resources while giving the US an easy out. I don't see Putin going for it.

I think an alliance between Russia, Iran and China is needed to counter US military adventurism in the region, they've done nothing but cause chaos there and anywhere else they went

It just shows you the mindset of the man. Even worse all the Americans , who voted for him and buy into his bullshxt . You'd have never even heard of trump if it wasn't for his father bankrolling him .

I always thought that "coup" went exactly to plan. They came down hard in academics and known opposition to the government as a result.

If you have an hour to spare, I'd recommend this BBC Documentary on the lavish 3 day party that the Shah of Iran threw just before the Revolution kicked off. While the rest of the country was starving, the Shah and his wife built a city out in the desert for this this 3 day even and invited all of the words Royal Families and leaders to it.

It was put on by the Shah to celebrate himself as the 'king of Kings'. The Brits only sent Ambassadors to it as they didn't want to be seen to agreeing with this statement.

Just goes to show the insanity of some the people that the US install into these countries that they topple elected governments in.

In fairness its easier to send other people off to war, just as long as Trump and Co. aren't doing the dying... Just ramp the public up back home about how the military is 1000s of kilometres away "protecting their freedoms"

The anti American sentiment in this thread is laughable. Considering we in Ireland are sheltered by the US military and supported by them both economically and financially. The lefties posting in here clearly forget which side our bread is buttered on. It’s certainly not the Islamic fundamentalist side.

Fact is the Iranians have been sworn enemies of the United States and by extension the secular western world for 40 years so all their fresh threats in the wake of this assassination are meaningless. What are they actually going to do? Any escalation by their tyrannical government and they will be bombed into oblivion.

I'm no leftie, but I'm not falling for the mass lack of common sense when it comes to the US, they've only themselves to blame from constantly interfering and agrivating Iran, it can alllll be traced back...

I'm far from a leftie, and I'm not a huge fan of Muslims either, but what the yanks have done in Iraq is criminal . Before the invasion of Iraq , how many suicide attacks did we have in europe , I can't think of any , did we have Isis , did we have millions of Muslims coming into Europe due to the Arab springs , which the yanks backed by bombing the Arab rulers they didn't agreed with .

You seem to be confusing Iran with Saudi and the gulf states.

Iran have been "sworn enemies" of the US & UK because they imposed a dictator ship on Iran for a quarter of a century.

They have every reason to not like the United States who have interefered in there countries affairs since the 1950s. You do know they overthrew Irans democratically elected prime minister and installed a brute of a dictator?

Wouldnt you hate the Americans if they overthrew our government and installed a dictator :pac:

You would swear the Iranians hate America for no reason :pac:

Their threats are meaningless, yet Soleimani has been blamed by the US for the deaths of over a thousand Americans (apparently). So are the Iranians dangerous or not?

The hostility can be traced further back to the overthrow of the Secular government in the 50s. The Iranian leader at the time, Mohammad Mosaddegh, was overthrown in a coup by the United States and Britain for the crime of nationalising the oil industry.
