Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Check for entry stamp on leaving Dublin Airport

When coming from Northern Ireland you are supposed to get an entry stamp at a Garda Office. I know a non EU Citizen who has not done this, having entered over a month ago.

When they exit Ireland will there be a check for an entry stamp? What would be there best option for flying out?

We don't have outbound immigration at Irish airports.

Even if anyone looked there is very little that could be done. The person is leaving the country.

Well, there is, the person could be detailed, and punished (aka fined) for the transgression if they were bothered about it.

    That happens in other countries.
Do we definitely not have outbound immigration checks in Ireland??
What happens if a tourist over stays on a holiday visa?

Come on in with your valid visa be it holiday or long stay.

But there is no exit stamp. AFAIK.

WTF? Hello Mr. Foreign Affairs why?

Yep. Its hard to believe but there's no outbound immigration in Ireland.

If you are unlucky to get caught by the guardai (driving with an expired permission, under the influence etc) there will be consequences.

If you arrive on a 3 month holiday visa and decide to stay 6 months travelling around upon leaving you will get 0 hassle at the airport.

I know a couple people who were working full time (cash in hand), didn't bother to renew their student visa and over stayed for a full year!

Left the country via Dublin Airport and now are living somewhere else.

As a tax payer I love to hear those hapilly ever after stories... #NOT

Taxpayers are the ones that'd be paying for the significant uplift in staffing and facilities costs required for exit verification immigration.

Also, it doesn't stop people overstaying; it just allows you to deport them when they turn up to leave anyway.

So we should punish people who overstay their visas by making them stay longer when they’re on the way out? Oh right yeah I see the logic now.

    You are missing my point...

100% use my tax to increase the number of staff and build border control.

Do not take the piss by overstaying your permission deliberately and work for cash in hand, saving thousands a year. That's what annoys me.

Unfortunately nothing can be done to stop people overstaying but I believe some offenders would think twice if passport check is implemented at the exit point.

It's simple, without control they can return when they want.

With border control they will be subjected to an exclusion period - at least 3yrs in serious countries like Germany or Australia.

    I am out.

No need to make them stay longer. Just impose a fine for each day of overstay. Like 10euro per day.
Alot of countries I have visited do this

Nothing happens in practice. They are told to leave if detected.
The Minister for Justice has to make a removal order to actually deport a person who has overstayed.

No, I got your point entirely. I just don't have any of your belief that it'd have any impact at all.

And when they don't have the money, do what?

And if you fail to pay, they stop you leaving?
