Two deer with one shot - how common?

I was out with a couple of friends this morning and one of them shot two fallow does with a single bullet. The head of the second deer just happened to line up with the one he was aiming for.
Have any board members had this happen to them or seen it before? Just wondering how common or rare it might be.

Not deer, but gives you the jest?

I had one 270 and one 30-06 disintegrate and not cause any exit wound in the last month, both hit leg bone square on. But normally I'd get a pass through if I chest shoot, exception on a large red doe were the '06 was found under the off side hide. If the bullet doesn't blow up (balistic tip or hitting bone) you'll get a pretty intact bullet exiting and therefore has the potential to kill.

I've had it with rabbits but not yet deer (try to watch my backgrounds). I do know a few who have said they have done it accidentally.

Yeh not something I would be completely happy with to be honest...... always be sure of your backdrop.. and a animal isn’t a backdrop..

But this is completely my own opinion.. others may differ.

Apparently, it's quite common in Cavan....

Ive had it hog shooting with a Bow in the US, its quiet common for the arrow to pass through.

When rifle shooting I wouldn't take a shot if another animal was behind, id prefer to wait for the target animal to move first

Back in the days of punt guns whole flocks of wildfowl were taken out in one blast - interesting display of them and other old wildfowling gear at the Slobs interpretive centre just outside Wexford town.

On the note of one shot two hits I have seen doubles , in skeet shot in one shot a few times. Fascinating when you see it.

Shot 2 foxes this year on the first September out deer stalking. They were play fighting and I just had to time it right to get both with the 1 shot

Poor decision if i'm honest. Much greater chance of a wounded animal. Better to go for a clean kill on one animal rather than attempt a "trick shot" on two animals with the risk of wounding one or both. Hunting is as much about respect for the animal as it is about being aware of your surroundings and backdrops. That is just my view on it.

I seem to remember Cal Ward mentioning it in one of his articles in ISD. Some lad had wrote in about it happening him and his shooting buddy.

First they came for the socialists...

I've see a lad do it myself and it was done on 2 deer at 380 yards wit a big gun and lights out on both heads shots on the spot.

Fair going and totally responsible to take a head shot at 380 yards. Lights out for sure🙄
