Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Floating TV unit

    Keen on mounting the TV in the near future and putting wiring through the wall, but unsure on what to do with some of the peripherals. At the moment I like the idea of also mounting a simple TV unit with storage space. I would put the soundbar resting on the top, and ideally have space for a games console in a drawer.

    From a few minutes on google images, this is probably the closest thing to what I'm looking for:

    Unfortunately it's an etsy store based in Canada. Also while it's functionally very close to what I want, I'd love to see if there are any other design options anywhere.

    Having a hard time finding any options for mounted units in Ireland, other than IKEA. Does anyone have any recommendations or ideas that might help? Thanks!

    Hi,
    Have you had a look in IKEA yet?
    They have a few similar units available such as this wall moundtable unit:

    Or even a Kallax storage unit can be fitted on the wall horizontally with additional cabinet doors and have a glass top made to protect the surface,
    This unit fitted horizontal on the wall; personally I've fitted a black one vertically for storage purposes in bedroom 03 of my home,
    https://www.ikea.com/ie/en/p/kallax-shelving-unit-oak-effect-50307494/
    Doors available:

    Drawers available:
    https://www.ikea.com/ie/en/p/kallax-insert-with-2-drawers-oak-effect-20321547/
    Lights also available:

    Then measure it yourself to get a glass top cut for it by a local company will look better and protect from potential coffee cup stains.

    I recommend "ibra" branded or "Visteon" cables from Amazon as there cheaper than Ebay; alot of Ebay sellers enterprise on Amazon
    Amazon is also ideal for brackets
    I also recommend checking LaptopsDirect.ie for deals on televisions I saved over €400 on all three 5 series Samsung for upstairs compared to currys or Harvey Norman's,
    Although I did get a great deal this week on a 7 Series Samsung for the living room from currys

    I've fitted four televisions on the walls of my home routing all the cables inside the walls with floating box's in the bedrooms you may find my 4 page home improvement thread somewhat of interest
    Link: https://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/80864-living-room-project/#comments

    all televisions have LAN cable connections and each room has two satellite feeds with sky multiroom boxes and uk satellite cards for the best range of freeview without any sky subscription,

    I've run two coaxial feeds from the living room to the attic to operate like a train track loop
    It brings down the aerial feed from the attic in to a HDMI modulator in the living room;
    this modular adds the blu-ray player to the range of terrestrial channels;
    the coaxial feed then goes back up in to the attic where it goes in to another HDMI modulator adding a CCTV system to the range of terrestrial channels
    it then goes from this HDMI modulator in to a 4 way splitter providing a terrestrial connection to each television including the living room containing a channel showing the blu-ray player and a channel showing the cctv footage along side the regular Saoirview lineup which saves purchase of a second DVD or blu-ray player by sharing the broadcast from the one in the living room.

    When fitting a power cable I recommend fitting a C13 as some televisions such as Sony or LG sometimes take a C13
    You can then fit a C13 to figure 8 adapter to that cable making it a figure 8 connection which fits a Samsung or Toshiba
    Another adapter available is a female to female HDMI plug; I've got these on standby for my HDMI cable to allow me plug in a viewing stick if ever required.

    If you can; fit a flexible pvc drain pipe available from woodies to the wall as i have done myself in the thread
    Run your cables inside makes it easier to add or shorten there length or add additional cables at a later date.

    Regarding cables I recommend;
    1x Cat7 RJ45
    4 x HDMI version 1.4 (or higher)
    1 x F-type to F-type satellite cable
    1 x coaxial
    1 x C13 power cable
    1 x C13 to figure 8 adapter cable

    The length of these cables then depends on where your fitting, I plan to fit a sofa under the television in my living room where you plan to fit your cabinet; my setup slightly differs there where I've fitted a vertical cabinet in the corner of the room to house the devices,

    This is a great post, I love the detail in your linked post about how you got the coax cables up through the plasterboard cavity - great work 😁
